I own a website/domain name we'll call FlexWidget.com, for this discussion. It's a blog about Flex Widgets, and I own a trademark for "FLEXWIDGET" in class 35 so I can sell goods like shirts, mugs, etc, with the mark "FlexWidget" on them. The blog has been in existence for a year.

Thinking the domain name is extremely valuable because Flex Widgets will become extremely popular in the future, I am wondering if I should protect the name further by filing for another trademark in a different class for "news and information about Flex Widgets".

(I also own almost all of the major tld's for FlexWidget)

Since I've been doing this website for a year, and I have the trademark for the goods using the mark, should I even worry about getting a trademark for running an information site with the name?

If I got the mark for an information site, could I actually stop someone from starting a site FLEXWIDGET.tld (tld that I don't have)? Can I stop them anyway since I have the other trademark already?

In other words, should I spend the $300 on the new trademark given the above, and considering the domain name(s) will be worth high xx,xxx to low xxx, xxx.

You might as well protect your intellectual property, it can't hurt, but I'm not a lawyer either.
