OK. Please appraise: Groovy.tv

I picked this up a while back for development and I'm curious what y'all think.

Personally, I love it and see many uses, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder (or beer holder... it's friday after all).

What do you think?

Not much comment on the name except to say I kinda like it (I really am a dnforum newbie) -- but I love your thread title. :)

Wow.. maybe we should be "appraising" your username "dnforum newbie.." lol

I'd say $0 considering you will end up loving this place and it will cost you 100 DNF$ to change your name to "dnforum adict" in a week. :)

Haha, sorry to steer the thread offcourse. As for the groovy domain name, I like it. Heck, it could be a TV channel for 70's related shows and fashion.. Or they could just play Austin Powers 24/7... I'd say maybe not the best resail right now, but hold onto it and you never know. $xx-$xxx to start. I'd recommend developing to see the full potential of it's worth. :eek:k:

You know, I like it too! It is a really non-threatening combo. I don't forsee type-in value but if there was a site I would advertise on Groovy.TV . I am going to say low $xx,xxx. Could be a great retro site for ex-hippies, crap what am I saying, "once a hippy always a hippie!"

Cheers!

Wow! These appraisals are far higher than I expected for a .tv. I did a search on *.tv on this site and the appraisals for other .tv names are far from stellar, hence the "flogging" title.

I agree, DNForum Newbie gets a big, fat zero for his/her username. ;-)

I like all the suggestions, keep them coming.

Thanks.

Groovy.tv is ripe for development. You could sell now for low XXX but I find the name too "groovy" to let go of.

I like it!! I tried to grab "Smile.tv" (or was it Smiles.tv?), but couldn't get it. That was the only time I was interested in a .tv domain name until NOW.

What makes your domain name really hot right now is the recent TV show on MTV dealing with the '70s. I happen to love MTV, but that show was a riot!

Good luck with this one!

Wayyyy too groovy to let it go for say a couple of hundred bucks right now. Definitely worth building and it's such a brandable name! Easy to market, in print, on the radio... in person.

As a bonus, it just sounds cool.

Hold it, and perhaps develop it.. do some viral marketing (word of mouth) and see if you can get AdSense or Y! PPC revenue from it.

Good luck and nice name!

Thanks for the groovy response. 99% positive so far.

Does anyone see any negatives? This input would be valuable also.

Tuvalu and Groovy don't exacly fit hand in hand.

I'm sure it does if you actually live there. Not a TV fan, eh?

I kind of doubt that the word 'groovy' is used to often there. It hardly is here in the us anymore, unless your an aging hipster trying to connect with your kids.

Really if anyone uses the word groovy in a sentence to me I have to stare in amazement whether that person is for real or not, and then feel embaressed for them. Ask yourself, "when is the last time you used it in a sentence to get your point across without coming off feeling like an idiot?"

But, on the other hand if you sell it to pot lovers, they've burned through to many brain cells to care. Probably 100-200 dollars.

Market,

One thing to bear in mind is that the things people post in this forum are normally so far away from reality, its got little predictive value at all. This has no apparent or obvious relationship to their actual ability to accurately value a domain name, as you will quickly learn.

My personal opinion is that much of the time, what they are posting is what they would like to PAY for your name, if you were to lose your mind and offer it to them.....since almost everyone here is a reseller/speculator.

It would be like driving your car onto the lot of Willy's Used Cars and Pet Toys and saying "hey, whats this worth?".
What do you expect Willy is gonna say about your car?

Based on observation and personal experience, an appraisal request in this forum , more often than that which should occur randomly, generates responses that deviate from each other by a factor of 100, like yours ranges from 100, 200 to "low xx,xxx". On this basis, you could employ a random number generator (or a Ouija board or Magic 8 ball) and ask it to return values between 1K and 100,000 and it would be as useful to you.

Alternatively if you get enough responses so that you can throw out the high and low values you will be left with a cluster of responses which are more than likely due to the "me too" phenomenon instead of being the result of independent analysis. You can derive this from the fact that you will seldom see the extreme values posted at the end of a thread that had a lot of replies.

My advice, if you believe any name you own to be worth more than low to mid xxx, would be to get a professional appraisal (2 or 3 would be even better). Average those and see what you get.

Edited : adding estimates

groovy.tv
$0 on dnforum
$500 reseller
$1500+ end user

Phantom is simply pissed his Magazine domain was not appraised for 4 figures plus. If you think that you'd get more objective appraisals elsewhere what are you doing on DNF, Phantom? Most of us have a long-standing, realistic view of the market.

Im not *pissed*; as I stated in my original post, I was only asking you people out of scientific curiousity to see how screwed up it would be. As the owner of the name and the one who receives the offers for it, I *do* have a realistic and long-standing view of its value. And, yes I've had it professionally appraised.

I will then say "put your money where your mouth is" and hope to see you on next week's DNJournal :-D

If you can't take objective criticism over a domain appraisal from others in the industry, you might as well stick to "professional appraisals" and frame those useless certificates.

Not to be missing the point of an appraisal thread but Radi whoops Acroplex is right, I love when people don't love an appraisal they ask for, they get mad and say it doesn't mean anything.

Done.
