So I sent the owner who let it expire an e-mail to buy it from him, he agreed on a fair price and I paid him the GoDaddy RGP fee plus his fee and he would push it to my account.

It was a very kind person to communicate with and he was very willing to cooperate. Since my payment I have not received a single e-mail from him after contacting him dozen of times.

Today cmcast.net is dropping, so I guess I've been pretty much scammed out of my money since there is little chance he will redeem it today before the drop :'(

he can't redeem it now, it is pending delete.
so, you did get scammed.
if you paid by paypal, contact them asap.

you should try to backorder it.
it doesnt seem like a generally valuable domain, so you have a good chance to get it.

it does have value, and seeing it has a nice ovt score I doubt I'll be able to get it.

I forgot that it isn't even redeemable anymore because it's pending delete, I don't think PayPal will do anything since it's a non-tangible good.

haha thanks for that but people around here are not stupid and I do not want to treat them as such. I've just filed a buyers complaint at PayPal and included the whois info so they can check it's not in my possession. Still I think my chances are slim because if this was a true scam he will have emptied his account immediately leaving no funds to be refunded.

Still it's strange that he scams me, if he would have redeemed the domain which he lets expire anyway it would've been 5 minutes of work and no shit afterwards.

Did you try calling him? Is the whois listed his number or a whois-protected number?
If it his number I would give him a buzz to let him know I had not forgotten about the money.

And as a side note, I am getting more fed up with paying by paypal by the day. Intangable or not it is not good business to take peoples money but offer them no protection. Unless it is someone I know from this board in good standing, I am using escrow or some other 3rd party person to arrange everything. Even when a sale/buy finally goes through it pisses me off when a person receives the money and the first thing they reply back with is "Uh, there is a problem I cannot tranfer....." or worse yet...no reply.

Yes I did call him a few times, all I get is a voicemail and it's not even one from the person listed as owner of the domain.

I agree with you on the PayPal matter, they do often decide in favour of the buyer but when they eventually do (at least 10 days after the transaction) they try to recover the funds from the seller's account and -SURPRISE- there is a zero balance. Whoopdeef***ingdoo... I know I'm right yet I have nothing to show for it. I'm getting fed up with it and I'm not going to pay anyone with PayPal anymore unless I know them on a personal basis.
