Thanks KRL, interesting stuff :)

And how many of those names would you pay more than a few hundred for as they stand alone?

Exactly. The key to this deal is in the "255,000 paying subscribers" me thinks.

its all in the marketing for those domains

Thanks for posting, Never even heard of that network or any of those sites before

I believe these were not just names and sites. Some are brick and mortar companies with live staff.

Well of course these were successful domains with sites.

Of course IAC was buying the 255,000 paying suscribers.

That's all obvious.

The exciting point I like with this acquisition is that it shows you can take
long domains that in DNF would probably get the famous "not even worth reg
fee or development potential" comments, build them up, create a successful
business on them and then cash out with a major acquisition.

It proves it can be done with domains that we all in here would laugh at if someone posted those.

Kevin,

Can you provide the source as I only see the same post from your blog!

$57 Million in cash...for 220,000 members. I would never pay that, but what do I know.

Facebook is free and with the recent Russian investment and 250 Million members FB is valued at about $24 per member.

The IAC deal valued People Media's sites 255,000 members at $224 per member.

But if you look at the paying members rates on Match it's about $240 a year so Diller paid about 1 years gross per member.

Again, as I mentioned...

They purchased a company called People Media. This is a real company located in Los Angeles. It has employees.

It is more than a website or domain names.

It is not about the value of domain names but the value of a company who has demonstrated a profit.

This is a company that has been in business since 2002.

They bought a company and its assets.

thats how they role ;) IAC!!

Very proud of them all..time to smoke a big phatty :smokin:

You pay to get laid.

57 Million for domains and websites. I would love to meet Barry Diller from IAC. I believe they own shoebuy.com If he could just see what names I own! Marketing is the key.

Like Doc says, these guys a real business but only 225k members? Seems really small in comparison to the AFF sale last year.
