ICANN outlining that registration of a new top-level domain name is expected to cost anywhere between $100,000 and $500,000 USD.

Ok so how many other than Geo's and typos will be applied for?

I think Geo's can be huge....or wait...don't we already have that ;)

So do you think if this goes through, it will affect how willing end users will be to pay big bucks for .com and other TLD names, if they believe they can just wait and get their own?

Who the heck would win for .hotel? Marriot, Howard Johnson, Best Western? They all have the money... geez.

The added confusion will make .com even more valuable.

Likely, the hotel execs still don't get it, so a private individual or group will get .hotel, then sell domains like bestwestern.hotel, marriot.hotel, etc. to the appropriate hotels (the ones that wish to even register the names) and then sell or develop the generics, like deals.hotel, reservations.hotel, rooms.hotel etc.

Then consider the added confusion when someone gets .hotels (with someone else owning .hotel). It will be like the Wild West gone Wild!
