SAN FRANCISCO — The ICANN board voted today to proceed with ICM’s .XXX sTLD despite the advocacy of the Free Speech Coalition and a wide range of adult industry leaders. This decision represents the first time the ICANN Board has disregarded advice from its Government Advisory Committee (GAC).

The board voted 9-3, with four board members abstaining, to approve the .XXX sTLD.

This may be a good time to dump adult domain names.

-=DCG=-

The industry itself doesn't seem to be behind the extension. Will they be forced onto it is the question I guess.

But I'll be glad to take all of those premiums off of ya for reg fee.

On a side note I'll be glad to take all of those premiums off of ya for reg fee.

I think I only have 4 and some could be considered not really adult like mistress.com, so I am not too worried.

Will they be forced onto it is the question I guess.

If this is the case, this will be an extension to get in on landrush, sunrise and whatever other term they want to make up.

When was the last time a TLD was launched with unanimous community/industry backing ? :)

.xxx will go nowhere. adult industry doesn't want it. the only people who want it are speculators and the lame ass who has been trying to force it through for over a decade..

if anyone wants to sell their aged quality adult .com's feel free to pm me.

well being a part of the adult industry many years now, i have followed this story closely and its really complicated in many aspects...

Most part of the adult industry indeed didnt want the TLD to get aprooved. Mostly because of the fear that it will become mandatory to move the sites to .xxx

This fear is stronger between the adult community in US, than in Europe,Canada etc

Another fear is that many countries/institutes/providers will try to block .xxx, so if adult content is not allowed anymore on .com/.net etc can ave a serious effect on traffic/revenue for amny many companies.

I highly doubt this will happen, but still there is a chance of course. Many debate on how the SEs and mostly google will treat sites with .xxx and if its worth developing stuff on it.

As DCG wrote above I think makes sense to invest especially on the landrush/sunrise periods etc

.xxx investors should be prepared for a lot of grief and disappointment. If you are going to develop...fine. If you are looking to flip, you are in for a rough ride. Just sayin...

Get in and reserve your names now.

If you have any adult .com names you have more rights to the .xxx than others.

that does not actually reserve the domain. Any number of people can 'reserve' porn.xxx sex.xxx, etc. It was just a way for the .xxx guys to make it look like they have support. I'm sure the landrush will work the same way any other does, through registrars.

porno.org, porno.net, porno.com - who gets the .xxx?

Good luck getting adult website operators to switch from their ranking websites, aged domains and often expensive outlays for decent .com domains. The puritans in the US may want to shovel it all onto .xxx but good luck outside of America.

Interesting fight ahead.

not to mention they are going to be 100 bucks a pop. ouch..

Past the initial hype, don't expect that .xxx names will get any more natural traffic than any other extension like .asia or .tel.
Why would they ?

Not to mention that search engines like Google have filtering by default against explicit content.
So SEO will suck too for those who have that default setting :)

Want to shoot yourself in the foot: base your next adult venture entirely on a .xxx domain
