My programmers are telling me that you will need Sun's Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4 installed on your PC. The auction client is a java applet which will not work without the JRE.

You can find downloads for different operating systems here http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html

Test your system by going here http://tauction.dnforum.com/client/client.html. If you get a gray square with login blanks, you're good to go.

If you have any troubles with the test, download and install the latest version of Netscape. It works fine without having to install anything.

A reminder: Auction Night will change to Saturday after this Sunday's auction.

No way Jose. That was bad enough with only 138 names. I was mentally exhausted after last week's auction. We're over 200 now, so it would be much worse.

Greg, can you e-mail the "(JRE) version 1.4" instructions to everyone, and give them a heads up about Sundays auction?

I considered doing that. I'm reluctant to. For one reason I went from never sending an email mailout to sending 2 in 2 weeks already. The other thing is even my own moderators don't necessarily read the email. One of them asked a question about the auction that was clearly stated in the second email.

I can only imagine the load you're carrying for this right now. I thought it would take some of the load off by informing those who read their e-mail from the forum. Maybe you can send out one that says something like this. This way you can help those who want it, and it gets you a nice little list. Maybe this would work in the future, as your plate is full right now.

Do you get emails telling you someone has replied to your thread?

No, I turned it off. But I think I get mail through the email function.

"Allow Bulletin Board Administrators and Moderators To Send You Email Notices?"

I had this off  I wonder how many warnings from moderators I missed, lol!

You got banned and didn't even know it.

Installed and ready for sunday..

However I think like some other people here said that maybe something should be done to inform others about what they need to download.. many reasons like for dialup people who come in and have to unexpectedly download a 9MB file and might not get it in time, hopefully most everyone will read this thread though.

Gregr,

Has/will the auction be tested on dialup? What are the results? I'm stuck with a hotel room and I don't know if they have highspeed connections.

Looking forward to DNForum Auctions v2.0:)

We're flying by the seat of our pants. The auction will be the test.

Thanks for the ... reassurance, Gregr!! ;)

Just kidding, of course ... I KNOW for a fact you guys are busting your stones to make this work for all of the membership.
PS. Please note how I use the "quote button" now, too. Smile.
Take care and Good Luck.

Your chat is working fine with me but I didn't install JRE - I installled nothing to be honest :)
I've Internet 6.0, maybe it has already a java support for this new application.

The auction won't take place in the chat room Sunday. We're developing a separate auction client. If you already have Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4 installed, you are good to go.

I suggest to everyone that's bidding on more than a couple of names, that you create a list of the names you plan to bid on, along with your maximum bid. The pace of the auction will be fast and furious and you're going to need that cheat sheet. :)

Hi there;
hope i will be in the room on sunday and hope Gregr will change the time in the next week cuz some of us are from Europe and have to work few hour later. I know he will do it.
I have looked the list of the Names for sunday and have a Question:
I thoght the start bid will be 1$ but i see here different start bids.
Is the beginn for 1$ start this week or first in next week?
have fun and peace with you all

Correct. The 'required $1 Starting bids are to BEGIN on Saturday, 1/25 ... as I understand it!
Good Luck.

crapola... i waited 'till last auction end to put up my names so that they get first listing... now i'm 60-something. Oh well.
