For Sale In & Out of root name servers

I'm watching a name that expired a couple months ago. I got a snap on it, and I've had about lots of updates from snapnames over this past week. One day it says the domain has been removed from the root name servers, then the next day I get a email and it says its been added to the root name servers. Then again, it says its been removed, then added, then removed, then added. I don't get it. Why does this happen?.
