Hello all looking for some advice, i would like to host my own websites etc on my own server, how easy or hard would it be to get my own server set up in my little flat? Would i need to get another phoneline and would i need to upgrade my broadband service etc? Is it a viable possibility to do this? any advice would be most appreciated. Cheers Chris

it's easily possible if you don't require high availability. whether you need to upgrade your connection depends on your usage (you can always figure this out later if your application isn't critical)

among other things you'll want to look into

*a dns provider which allows low ttl values - helpful when your (supposedly dynamic) ip changes (eg dnsmadeeasy.com)
*dynamic dns update client / script / SoHo router
*upstream bandwidth appropriate for your usage
*static ip if your isp offers this and you're willing to pay the price
