IPS Cell technology has the potential to bring stem cells, and all the unbelievable cures and treatments they offer, into the mainsteam of medical treatment in a huge way very quickly. They virtually eliminate the controversy because they do not require any destruction of embreyos. In fact, they were specifically mentioned in President Bush's State of the Union speech in 2007.
Recently there was even a call to have everyone donate a bit of skin tissue to a "IPS cell bank" so that we might each be able to have our own stem cells available for our entire lives which could conceivably be used to replace organs, cure spinal injuries, replace damaged skin or other tissue, and cure many types of diseases. The possibilities for this technology are limitless.
