I usually agree when someone says .mobi sucks, .tv sucks, and .asia, .eu, .my, .bs, etc. etc...suck

But for once, I will disagree

Seeing the ridiculous combinations being registered in .com, I do think that sooner or later, the .com market will experience a major slowdown, if not a complete bust

Simply put, the internet was meant to be a place where entrepreneurs can set up their business for $16 - $9 for hosting, $7 for a domain.
But when you have even NNNNNN.coms being taken, and not a single semi decent .com name available for cheap, you can't help but stifle the growth of the TLD. A 17 year old with a brilliant idea for a site will not shell out $500 to buy a "non premium, non repeating" LLLLL.com

So yes, in a way, domainers are killing themselves...thats why I've been learning how to develop and move my interest more and more away from purely domaining

As regards .asia, I'll agree with Lord Brar at the present stage that no one really knows what it is. But its too early to decide what the fate of this TLD would be
Even otherwise. Seeing the number of .asia names registered in the landrush, I do think there will be the opportunity to make a quick buck by selling to other domainers

No matter how much we might crib that .eu sucks, LLL.eu names still sell for high xxx. Way better than a much more recognizable .org or .info, or even .net

Hi there.

Am not here to defend .ASIA or praise .COM either.

The facts are the facts & truth will prevail.

Am not defending .ASIA here or any other forum just because i have 100+ .ASIA names registered. But some things has to be said loudly.

.ASIA does not represent any JAPANEESE, CHINEESE or INDIANS, etc.

.ASIA represents world's 60% population.
It represents the fastest growing economy among Asian countries.

Whether you are from JAPAN, CHINA or INDIA or any asian countries, irrespective of your nationality you can register .ASIA and target this market for your products and services.

If you do some research on BIOLOGY and ask questions about it to the people who are into TEXTILE industry, surely you'll get negative answers.

When .IN was launched in 2005, many customers from INDIA who wants to have their own websites, were unable to find suitable names in .COM, when we informed them that the same name is available in .IN, they said ".IN, whats that?" and now in 2008, even people from US, EU & Russia has their main business running on .IN. THE point is people will come to know about .ASIA when service providers inform/explain them about .ASIA. Orelse it will take little bit more time for people of asian countries to understand .ASIA on their own.

Please don't forget that, whenever you SOW A SEED a plant will grow soon and after some time you can reap the fruits out of it. DON"T EXPECT fruits from a plant which is hardly one month old. (as of today, .asia is not even one month old).

At the end. ASIA rules... BRAVO...!

.asia is useless until idn support comes through.

.asia will have as much or less traffic than .mobi - and that's a pretty sad benchmark.

Is a .COM movement used to stifle the growth of domaining with respect to alt TLD's?

What do you think?

.mobi sucks
.tv sucks
.asia sucks

"Buy LLLL.com then NNNNN.com then NNNNNN.com to create a market, just between us domainers.."

It is now April 12, 2008 - how is your end-users' appeal?

I believe our masses' pockets suffer because our industry leader's attention believes in kissing the butts of the same "heroes"..

Bad roots

We need to grow widespread appeal.. 4/12/2008 domaining can not be said to have broken out of its infancy..

so many people have left (give up) our industry citing failure; when, they find no truth of support for the grassroots domainer's hopes..

Kind Regards,

Yelo (Domainer since January 1999)

No one is to blame

Just asking to study, what are the industry's leaders' voices doing for the FUTURE of our trade (the other extensions) asap?

-and-

Have they been the voices representing the masses: Please see http://www.dnforum.com/f31/typical-grassroots-domainer-forum-member-i-have-100-what-should-i-invest-thread-292268.html

Colleagues, just getting a little tough today to make us all go faster in thought here in preparation of the special venture for the world called Domaining..

Kind Regards,

Yelo

Lol. Sometimes I feel like people base their views and make up facts AS THEY ARE ACTUALLY WRITING THE POST.

The majority of extensions are a joke. Blame the registry for releasing too many. I'm sure if stuff like .us, .ws, .eu, .name, .biz etc..never existed, sure .tv and even possibly .asia would have a value, but right now they are all a dump.

It is really good to see other countries, especially in the asia area participating in this thread. :ok:

I have no idea what will become of .asia, .in, .eu, .mobi, etc as they are still new. surely .com rules and those with those great .coms are doing well. If you dont like the extensions, thats alright of course. Just would love to read the valid reasons why.

yea, it may take time just as .com did back in the days and really nothing beats .com (unless you have ww.thisistheonlydomainicouldgetbutitsok.com).

Current .com sites in Japan: 4,970,000,000
Current .net sites in Japan: 2,780,000,000
Current .org sites in Japan: 3,710,000,000
Current .jp sites in Japan: 4,000,000,000
Current .tv sites in Japan: 92,300,000
Current .mobi sites in Japan: 3,530,000
Current .asia sites in Japan: 237,000
Current .eu sites in Japan: 92,700,000
Current .in sites in Japan: 37,000,000

if someone has the stats for the other countries, i surely would like to see them.

Good domains make sense whether it's 2008, 2001, or even 1996. Great domains look even better with time and become more valuable. The main reason for the perception that .COM is dominating other TLDs is due to the large published sales figures and natural type-in traffic to go long with it. Many sales now go UNDER THE RADAR for other TLDs which is what some WANT to happen. Even within the .COM world many sales go unreported each week. The longer people look the other way, the more opportunity for you, me and others. The largest market for new TLDs is small business owners and those who actually develop sites rather than parking. This could ultimately lead to those extensions becoming widely accepted.
