Is exchanging links with a PR4 worth it? If being linked by multiple PR4 domains, would it increase my website to PR5 or more quickly?

Thr PR rating isn't really that accurate.

For example, DNF is only a PR of 3 and my site TopNames.com is a 6. Nothing to do on my site, plenty to do here...

PR is only good if your site has content and is optimized correctly. If you did a case study you will find that if you take the same site and had one reach a PR 4 and the other reach a PR 7 then you will find that the PR 7 will rank significantly higher.

If you are a PR 4 and you are linking to other PR 4's then most likely you will remain a PR 4 for some time. You need to find PR's that are higher than your to exchange links with.

im sorry but pr is very accurate

basically - linking to a pr4 depends on what pr your site is
its got a lot to do with outgoing links and incoming links and the pr of those sites:-D

Fonz,

How is my site topnames.com twice as popular as dnforum.com if PR is accurate?

No not at all, PR has no direct relation to traffic.(it can indeed be an indicator though..)

PR is simply a mathmatical formula using input s of the numerical value of links.

The theory is that the more better quality sites that link to you is a "verification" of your site as an "authority" of whatever your site is about.

It is a flawed theory and one that resembles swiss cheese with all the loopholes. It is easily abused.

Much like the inventory.oveture.com It is only a tool .

It can give you an idea if a site is "worthy" .. we see a nice PR site we are looking at purchasing but we dont rely simply onPR tool .

we look further and look at the backlinks and see if the links pointing in are indeed quality links or not.

I didn't think so. For example, TopNames had a very low number on Alexa (about 30,000) a few months ago, but there is no way it was one of the top 30,000 sites on the web.

Alexa, Overture and Google...I really don't pay attention to them. Look at the cold hard facts, how many unqiue visitors does the site have per day and how many page views per day. That's what I look at.

PR does help with google placement on specific search terms. The better the PR, the better you will rank on google usually.

PR is only for a specific page, you have to go to the index usually to get the exact PR of that site.

It's page rank and not site rank. :(

if you go to www.dnforum.com you will see it is a PR7, remove the www and it is a PR5.

PR was recalculated a couple days ago.

alexa is the worst site on the web for guessing the traffic of a site - it can be so easily abused its unbelievable

page rank doesnt mean traffic - i think this is where your getting confused from. A site with PR of 2 could get 100 uniques per day while a site with PR of 6 could get 40 uniques per day. My home site system0 gets more visits now than it did a few months ago and its pr has dropped by 1.

PR has got to do with search engine traffic and how high your site will be placed. The SE will also look at keywords, H and P tags, domain name and many other aspects as to how the site is ranked on the SERP.

You may not pay attention to search engines but that doesnt mean that you are not getting any visits from them - if you optimised your site correctly you could probably double your traffic in a few months. Have a look at your traffic logs - how many visits did you get from search engines - for me personally your talking about 85% - and to most sites SE traffic accounts for more than this.

Seriously top, search engine optimisation isnt some wives tales - if you do a bit of reading on it and learn the basics you could get a lot of traffic to your site. If your unsure start a new thread and i could point out some things on your site that could improve your ranking :)
