Hello guys
Is selling Domain names depending on luck, I think 90% yes.
Some of my domains with not too high keyword search .info and .us and .biz sold for a good profit while I have other domains with high keyword search and good TLD's .net and .org either not Sold or not getting any fair offers.

Bottom line, only a tiny portion of the domain names in existence is worth something to somebody else than the original registrant.

but some may say that "luck = timing"

as in, being in the right place at the right time, or seeing a good kw before everyone else does



when you look back at all the things you do in a day, there are plenty of paths to take


the one that leads to a new domain reg, that ends up in a sale....can most always be attributed to luck

then too, having the knowledge, skill and experience to "reconize" a winner and register it plays the biggest part


some people hesitate, and to them you are lucky because you didn't

some people sell too soon and because you held out for more, you got lucky


perspective of who gets what can be seen a luck across the board


when my brother and i go to the casino's, he always wins....i say he's lucky

i only win sometimes

on the other hand he knows nothing about domains

so to him... i'm lucky to be in this biz

I think marketing can play a major part. Getting a domain you want to sell out there, getting some eyeballs on it and in front of the right pair. Sometimes a buyer might not even know he wants your domain until they see it. Obviously, having quality domains helps. It's kind of like in another thread somebody was asking about Twitter and didn't understand how it can be used in a business like this. When it first came out, I didn't either, since I always try to find the practical uses with something and how it can help my business. Then after awhile I saw how it can be useful.

With that, join up with other domainers. Let's say you have 100 followers and one day tweet about a domain you have for sale. One of your followers might retweet and now all their followers see it, maybe you have more than one retweet. Maybe somebody likes your name well enough to blog about it. Gets the word out, maybe to that person who really likes your domain and buys it.

Sometimes a buyer might not even know he wants your domain until they see it.

I think this is important point, for examp. I have sold some domains for low profit and the buyers sold the same domains in the same place for 3-4 times more, and the contrary happens.

Luck is involved when you buy a name that you like and someone offers to buy it for an outragous amount, this happened to me a few times so far and I hope it happens more often.

But choosing the right domains is the key, good luck never hurts.

What I know that the best way for selling domain is to do nothing, just list your domains in some Domains sites and wait a potential buyer to contact you .
I have worked hard in the past to market some of my best domains with TLD's .com, .net, .org with fair prices but with no interest, while I have received unexpected offers for some of my .info , .us and .biz domains and without any work, two examples that one of these domains and it was .info my target was to sell it for $10-$20 but I received $230 offer for it from Sedo and other one was .info too listed in BIDO and sold for $200 .

I have also sold various reg fee names anywhere from $50-$1,000. These were not revenue or traffic names. I also picked up a droped name and sold it a week later (now thats luck)

if you are a reseller or selling wholesale it depnds more on exposure and pricing to find domainer buyers and less luck.

If looking for end-users and end-user price levels it's mostly luck to a large degree,
