I'm going after a domain with 330k overture searches per month (two word term, but with a dash). I just got my localwhois email saying it was available. Foolishly I hadn't put in to grab it.

I tried to reg. it but it says taken. Doing a whois it says:

Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, INC

Updated Date: 01-jul-2002
Domain not found locally, but Registry points back to local DB.
Local WHOIS DB must be out of date.

--------
Did it get grabbed, but the database just doesn't show who the new owner is?

Thanks.

I did get a two word term with 75k overtures, and a top bid of $1.40

Is there the possibility that it is about to drop, but hasn't officially yet? I'd pay $69 for a snap now, but not if someone just reg'd it an hour ago.

still learning...

Check the whois again at the next update in 13 hours time. You may find that it will then give an updated date of 24 July and then you've got the 5/6 day delete cycle from today.

So the current whois Updated Date: 01-jul-2002 may just refer to the date of the former update prior to the name entering the delete cycle today.

Yeah, I figure if localwhois namespider emailed me saying it was deleted, it must have been, and then taken.

if anyone disagrees, let me know...

Use SnapNames.com anyway and hope for the best and if it is still picked up by someone else - you can still use the snap for another domain later on.

Good news or bad news gbrott - does the whois now show a July 24 updated date, or was the name grabbed yesterday?

Bad news...oh well:

Registrar: STARGATE COMMUNICATIONS, INC.

are they one of the regulars?

Did you get your snap put on the name before it dropped, or was it missed by Snapnames?

Guest
I can't say anything - I've put snaps on names already gone more times than I care to admit. At least you can use the credit for something.

Local WHOIS DB must be out of date.

It's not the case with the name gbrott was chasing, but the above wording can also mean a name is being transferred.
