I got sent a .doc (MS Word document) file in an email and I was wondering if there was a way I could see when it was made.

Sure, I can save it and then right click - properties but that will only show the day I saved it as the creation date.

I do have Office 2007 if that is needed.

It might be in the document metadata. In Word2007, click on the office button (top left), scroll down to "prepare" and look at both "inspect documetn" and "properties". It might be in there.

Nope but you were close - select properties and then advanced properties.

Go to the "details" tab after right clicking/properties. It will be under "Origin" as "Content Created".

A little different - the summary tab. I missed it before because I had to scroll down. :)

Summary tab? What version of Windows is that? It says "Details" on Windows Vista.

Ah, OK.

I would too if it weren't for the fact that any computer made now-a-days comes with it. I would hate to reformat and then install my Windows 98 then upgrade to Windows XP Pro.

I'll just wait a little while for the Windows 7 upgrade...

My computer is only 2.5 years old - it took me a while to find one that only came with XP - but I was lucky. :D

Me too; Windows 7 now.

As for tracking when a doc was orginally created: I ALWAYS make a new doc (copy and paste or whatever) before attaching it in an email TO AVOID EXACTLY THAT.
