We all know that .ws has been marketed as website despite belongs to Western Samoa, but from a SEO point of view some good keyword may worth few bucks.

I would like to see your opinions and also where is the cheapest place to reg them.

Cheers

From the resale point of view I think .ws doesn't hold much of a value unless it's a very strong keyword name. Not sure about the cheapest place to register .ws but you can register one at godaddy for $9.99 per year.

I know of people making monthly revenue of $xx,xxx on developed .ws sites. People buy them for the price of quality keywords, and SEO with related backlinks. Of course the url bar traffic guys don't like em, but who cares?

This is a good topic. I run across keyword .ws names available all the time, but the forum 'experts" here don't like them. The "pros" avoid them like the plague! Stocdoc you say "I know of people making monthly revenue of $xx,xxx on developed .ws sites"

What are some examples of good keywords? I have only three .ws names. bimmer.ws, filet.ws, and punt.ws.

For reselling - no good as you want to make a profit and turn them fairly quick.

Longer term investment - good keywords, generic one-worders, they gotta go up - not like a rocket, but easily enough to make it well worth it.

As a web address for a developed site (raison d'etre, no?) - good bargain.

Foot note: Some of my .ws have started getting decent type-ins

The value of .ws does not really seem to be in resale right not...there are a few high profile names that sold for low xxxx though...

I own fsbo.ws and it gets only between 25-50 type ins a month, but the conversion rate is about 50-70%. I believe if I developed it...I would make a little more money. I would love to kow how some people are making xx,xxx with a .ws...maybe I could as well if I did it right.

Those "experts" and "pros" just use a different revenue model (pure ppc, non developed, url bar type-in traffic) and there's nothing wrong with that of course. But there are other "Pros" who are very successful with a different (SEO developed, search bar type-in traffic) revenue model. Rather than valuing the domain on a multiple of the pure url bar type ins, the .ws domains should be valued on the keyword impact on SEO for a site (via related backlinks etc) and the revenue increase that may bring. Some "Pros" combine models using the main keyword .ws as their site title and directing typo or so-so coms there.

Like the .com traffic guys, you should still be looking for high bid ppc keywords (products and services), but the .ws names still offer decent single word industry names or brands that are financially viable solutions.

Some of the same arguments support other alt extensions as well, such as .US or .info or .biz. The problem comes when you lose some of the keyword value thru trying to force associations that don't fit.

WS works nicely promoted as "Website", and .CC as "Credit Card" or .TV as "television", but when you start trying to force things like Desks.org or Desks.cc or Desks.tv etc etc you're hurting people's heads and the domain value based on the keyword.

How do folks feel about this association: ws as "wireless"?

Personally, I like it a lot for some words, and I don't mean just the obvious ones.

Thanks for the clarification Stoc! That definitely gives us some insight on whole .ws domain value. One-word, short catchy domains work well for .ws. For the reseller, it's not the tld of choice, but it could do well with the right word.

One of the good things is, you have a better chance to get a relatively high quality name that you can develop a website around. You could have some of your low performing .coms point to the .ws site or visa versa.

Would you hold onto bimmer.ws, punt.ws, or filet.ws?

They aren't making that much because they have a .ws behind it.

I have thebahamas.ws - If anyone has any idea what I could do with it without too much coding I'd be grateful for any advice.

Else I'd like to sell it primarily. Any idea which end-user to approach?

Thanks,
Mike

I love www's comment. ws - wireless, which provides another way to market .ws domains. I personally own about 20 of single dictionary word .ws domains, and wish the value will go up.

Yeah, but you gotta love how the .ws registrar holds it on the parked page for 24 hours after you purchase it.

I have a premium german name in .WS - Auskunft.ws. May be I'm ot a good promoter but no one is interested and that is strange.

The Germans just love .de, more than .com.
I believe they like .info too. Presumably they couldn't care about .ws.

I can agree. I own a german gold keyword domain in .WS - Auskunft.ws - still cannot find a buyer even for $50.

I don't see how anybody is making xx,xxx on a .WS, there is no .WS in the ccTLD year to date charts on DNJournal!
