The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Board of Directors voted 11 to 1 (with three abstentions) today to select the proposal submitted by the Internet Society (ISOC) for a new registry operator of the .org top-level domain, to replace VeriSign.

Pretty much as expected.. Interesting to see if they put any money behind this quote:

Oversight board member David Maher said ISOC would initially focus on marketing efforts to boost the domain’s popularity among nonprofits and cultural organizations.
“It’s really partly a marketing question. It’s been marketed the same as .com or .net,” said Maher, a Chicago attorney.
