You're so right, so many wannabes have no clue :)
They're just burning money ablaze.
 
It is sad.

If you look at many domains that newer domainers invest in it seems that many haven't taken any time to do research and find out if a domain will be valuable - even usuable - by someone else.

It is part of the learning curve, but that's why it pays off to read, and do research instead of making money in your bank account disappear.

yes, not very smart and obvious.

its also a good idea to own your own name (sorry if your name is John Smith...good luck with that) you never know when you may become famous or at least hit the news.

he'll end up dropping it when it expires anyways
 
As Acro said, it's a time-sensitive domain.
The ironic thing is that hardly anybody will even notice.
 
3 months of heavy traffic for $11.95 and looking at hot babes for free at Godaddy checkout, Not a bad deal.

Not that I approve mind you, I don't like cybersquatters anymore than you do.
