I imagine he asked because he noticed your French sig words and was wondering if that is the way kidnappings is spelled in France (with 1 p) so it is a one word generic in FR but may be a typo in U.S.?

no actually in France we still speak french and we have our own word to say "kidnaping" (we say "enlèvement" ^^)
