I just noticed that

coke.kids.us
nike.kids.us

are pending delete, and I am wondering what others think this means for kids.us.

Bury it, it's dead?

just a kick in the groin it'll be back?

kids.us was dead before it started.

Yeah. I let my one kid.us domain name go. Too much hassle for no good reason.

Kids.us failed and is a flop because:

1. initial and renew reg fees way too high, 2. major fee imposed for reviewing your website, 3. fact they are tough to typein and remember sub-domains, 4. lack of places selling them, 5. almost total lack of marketing.

I heard the registry receieved a large amount of money to promote but it appears all they did was keep the $ as there is no good evidence it was promoted much at all.

Smartest decision they could have made.

I'll give them more credit then that... they're either biding their time ( :rolleyes: ), or some enterprising ad agency fleeced them blind by reading the news reports on their advertising budget, and charging them somewhere near that for a few fart in the forest campaigns and "ongoing identity maintenance".

abckids.com = abckids.kids.us

I mean... I really don't see much of a mark of distinction.

fact is.. there is nothing promising about a .kids.us domain.. there isn't too many options for developers and setting limits is not too bright.. anyways, who said a .kids domain would be any good? let alone .kids.us... what a joke!

I think the intent is good to provide a safe place for kids. However, there are too many pices of the puzzle missing. First, does anyone have a browser tha ONLY get's kids.us domains? No, so creating a safe place for kids with a bus that will let them of at the strip joint does very little.

To filter eveything but .kids.us takes special software. If you actually use it to allow white listed domains, actually works fairly well. Once you have that, you might as welll allow visiting disney.com or nickelodeon.com which then makes .kids a moot point.

I think a safe haven for kids will come with IPv6. I would propose that IP's be handed out by country (for cutltural reasons) and by type of use. Different ranges could be given out for standard ratings like the movies, so that domains would not be necessary , and blocking could be done by ip range. Right now, it's way too easy to move, forward, park and point domains to make real and accurate filtering. Same holds true with email and trying to control by content or domains.

Kids.us has too many limitations to make it useful on todays internet. No outgoing links, no email addresses, not two way contact, limited to no user to user contact like this forum, etc.
