I think English, Spanish, and NY are cool.

However, I think Loans.kids.us is out the window. How many kids can get loans?

Also, on shaky grounds are jobs.kids.us and banking.kids.us.

While nothing prohibits a kid from having a bank account or a job, I think the target audience for these would more be young adults.

WHen I think of kids.us, I think 6-13 years old. . .

Just MHO.

Best of luck!

Interesting. I just sent Sid a note and said exactly the same thing about exactly the same domains. Personally I did not venture into the kids.us space. I don't care much for second level domains and kids.us domains were too pricey to make much sense for speculators (especially with the extra $250 annual review fee you have to pay if you or your buyer decides to actually put a site on line).

However I do welcome kids.us because if the large companies get in there and develop that space it will help recognition for the base .us extension a great deal (and I have invested in that area which I think will end up doing very well in a few years. I am already getting more inquiries on the .us domains I have every week). In a nutshell I think kids.us will be a developers extension with limited opportunities for speculators due to the high initial cost and limited number of potential end users.

Thanks All, Was worth a gamble, i guess. I've laid out more than this at the casino in one hand, so I felt this was worth a shot. May or may not pan out, I just wanted some opinions at present. The names that I saw available were to good to pass up, and hopefully I can at least break even in worst case scenario :)

Thanks Again,
Sid

Thats exactly right Sid. It's still awfully early so we can only give you a "best guess". You may end up being very happy you have all of them. Hope that is how is works out because the better kids.us does the better for recognition of the parent .us.

Duke kinda hit every point that I would make, relating to this third level extension.

Maybe my "Kyd.us" will go up in value!

I think you've just wasted your money, since there's no way you can earn anything off the domains.

Among the long list of restrictions on the use of .kids.us domains, there is the following (my emphasis added for clarity):-

"Technology restrictions
Because there is no foolproof method for protecting children online at this time, the kids.us Act specifies limitations put on specific technologies commonly used on the Internet today. These technologies are prohibited from use in any kids.us domains:

Two-way and multi-user interactive services, which includes: e-mail, chat, instant messaging, Usenet, Message Boards of like user forum, and peer-to-peer connections, place "unless the registrant certifies to the registrar that such service will be offered in compliance with content standards established … and is designed to reduce the risk of exploitation of minors using such two-way and multi-user interactive services"; and

Hyperlinks that take a user outside of the kids.us domain."

In other words you can NEVER link to a sponsor or affiliate program site.

Having said that, you may be able to get back more than you paid for them by reselling them quickly to someone who hasn't read the terms & conditions very closely!

Geez with all those restrictions, someone who came up with a way to make some money with the ext would really have the field to himself. There are ways to provide information that effectively sells a product or service without actually selling it on that site. In fact, a lot of companies look at the web as a way to educate their buyers. Then off they go to the brick and mortar shops or to a commercial site online. Just not directly. A kids game company might have sample games on the site and information about the games they sell. You don't think that when the kid gets home from school, he's not going to check them out?

Loans.kids.us
Jobs.kids.us
Banking.kids.us

Are all on ebay now. I decided to see how they faired when presented to the public, and then will decide what to do with the other three. But I will probably develope the others since they can be educational sites, and if the right affiliate programs are available, could be very profitable.

Thanks All,
Sid

Kids.us will outperform .us anyday with certain exceptions

Why because it creates a safe environment for kids and there is a huge market for that! No other TLD does that.

On the other hand .us has to compete not only with .com, .net .org, .info .biz, etc but also with .gov, .mil and .edu! No other ccTLD such as .ca , .uk .de etc has this problem.

Not every term works here. The best exceptions are sex.kids.us! followed by xxx.kids.us, porn.kids.us, casino.kids.us etc. I will go as far as appraising sex.kids.us at $0.

What works is geneirc terms at that are relevant to 5 - 13 year olds. And terms that a teacher would use as class material.

Can money be made here? Of course! But what works here is image / branding as opposed to affiliate links. The 8 year old will be 18 in ten years and that is worth $$$ to corporations.

As for the list

Loans.kids.us
A dud. Period. 8 year olds don't borrow money from banks. $0

Jobs.kids.us
Nah! Looking for work is not a priority for 7 year olds! $0

Banking.kids.us
Yes. Very good name. Many kids do have bank accounts! I say $1000's or more. Just wait

English.kids.us
Spanish.kids.us
NY.kids.us
All excellent. Terms that are school subjects and place names are an excellent choice. Again $1000's or more. Just wait!

If there is a niche there is a way. You need to compare apples to apples. If you enter this segment, you must align your efforts with the initial rollout = school. Songs.kids.us - Math.kids.us

How many kids in the .us learn the alphabet or learn math with songs. Answer: ALL of them.

Your comments have a DEEP correlation with your inventory. How many kids type in your 14 letter domain names that you create based off Overture's search terms? None. Ride the Niche
