Two years ago, the .us landrush was was in full swing. Many of us who missed the boat on the .com front were pre-registering hundreds of short, generic, tier 1, single-word domains at dozens of registrars in the hopes that THIS would be the cc extension that would deliver us up. (credit card limits be damned, there's no way I'll get all the ones I'm trying for anyway)

I remember the anticipation as the day drew near, when I'd be able to peek inside (more like rip the covers off !!) my mailbox to see what goodies my registrars had delivered.

Then it happened. There it was in my inbox. A message from NameScout. Click!

nra.us --> got it!
bankers.us --> whattza stocdoctor?
bingo.us --> who the hell is Zouzas?
blow.us --> got it!
check.us --> got it!
indian.us --> got it!
mirage.us --> got it!
nra.us --> got it!
sex.us --> as if I ever had a chance !
sweeps.us --> got it!
swing.us --> got it!
voyeur.us --> got it!
winners.us --> got it!

All in all, not a bad haul. Of course, I also got a bunch that I wish my registrars would not have been so fortunate to score. Many of those domains are now gone (can you say "Bazaar"?)

The point of all of this. It will soon be two years since the dawn of .us for the masses. Many of those pre-regged domains are coming up for renewal time. Time to fish or cut bait. Thousands of .us domains that were held in inventory will slowly surface in the "for sale" sections of your local domain name forum/sales boards, making for some very affordable acquisitions.

The above domains may still be for sale, at the right price of course. But you better hurry, I gotta start saving up for .eu !! :p

It's quite expensive, $25.00 I think. There are dozens of other places that you can renew .us for $6-8.00. Check around.

Mine have a reg date of April 24. Add a redemption grace period and pending delete time periods and most should delete around June or July if not renewed. Hopefully pool and namewinner will add capability to capture by then.

If Pool and NW have not been railroaded by WLS, perhaps.

For now, WLS will only be Verisign controlled TLD's of net/com. I would imagine it would take a few months after that for the other registries to get approvals and implement a WLS on their TLD's. The .us landrush anniversary could well be the last one though.
