(The leek is a national symbol of Wales - to celebrate the defeat of the Saxons by the Welsh King Cadwallader in 640AD and is worn on St. David's Day - March 1st.)

(There are a large number of leek growing / competition clubs in my part of the world (North East England) and growing the biggest exhibition leek is a serious business for some!)
