This domain brokerage enterprise is a snarky business.

Lots of folks hold themselves out as "brokers," but I question their qualifications. When the going gets tough, for example, when one of their hawked domains turns out to be stolen, what do they do? Plead that they are just a poor college student in a dorm and have no obligation to anyone?

When you do business with a self-professed "broker" --it is AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Many "brokers" do not have stated terms and conditions. Many appear to have no insurance. Nor segregated accounts. Nor escrow licenses.

Without those basic things, what does it mean to say you are a "broker?" Maybe it just means just that you want a piece of the action --and none of the responsibility.

As an alternative, let's compile a list here of the truly legitimate brokers and/ or escrow agents who handle domains.

Here are the criteria. The company should have:

*A website devoted to escrow or domain brokerage
*Insurance to protect clients
*A segregated account for client money
*Stated terms and conditions
*An escrow license

The only companies that I believe qualify are the following:

1. Escrow.com
2. GreatDomains.com
3. AfterNIC.com
4. SEDO.com

Please post any others.

Good Post Hal - (Edited due to SE spiders) - Thanks - Steve

Oops.

I have done business with both Domain Systems and URL Collection, and believe both are professional and credible. Those two were obvious. Thanks for reminding me.

Maybe I should also add BuyDomains. They are also very professional.

Here's the revised list of reputable brokers, in no particular order:

1. Escrow.com
2. GreatDomains.com
3. AfterNIC.com
4. SEDO.com
5. DomainSystems.com
6. URLCollection.com
7. BuyDomains.com

I have used URLCollection (aka CPISites) to broker hundreds of domain purchases for me. I find they are professional and are a great group of guys.

Agreed. Steve is a total gentleman. He recently sold me HogSearch.com --which is now my flagship search page/ default landing page.

The companies you mentioned above are very professional brokerage firms.

Additionally, the buyers and the sellers also need to act professionally.

If you want to be treated in a professional manner. You need to treat all of
the other people in the domain industry in a professional manner.

I agree. Hopefully as time goes by we all become more professional and the industry continues to thrive.

I know I have made changes to my business in connection to becoming more professional, with more improvements coming.

I see others doing the same. It's good to see. Alot of credit is due to public forums such as DNF where we can communicate and share ideas.

What qualifies me? Tons of contacts, my performance record, and happy clients.
