Just what exactly is the deal with LL dot whatever? I know that LL.com is great. LL.net is pretty great too...

But what about LL.TW? Or LL.CA? Or any other ext for that matter...

Better yes, what if that LL actually SPELLS something like "on" or "at"? Does that make any difference?

One thing I have noticed is the Registrars are REALLY proud of their LL domains. Like $1000 or more proud. So I'm guessing these guys will have a value of at least $1000 ;)

What's the deal with them? Good investments or only .coms or what?

Anyone?

It all depends on the pop of the extention. Traffic will play a big role, but mostly what the extention stands for, and how many people will actually use it.

IS there a tool for checking what an extension gets in terms of traffic?

Like a Wildcard or something like that?

I just found a way to check, in general, to search how may ext there are on Google.... all I can say is WOW!

.com = 11,520,000,000
.net = 996,000,000
.org = 3,950,000,000 (larger than .net... hmmm....)
.info = 259,000,000 (4th Largest... again, hmmm....)
.biz = 44,400,000
.cc = 57,000,000
.name = 157,000,000
.ws = 49,100,000

Int TLDs --
.uk = 1,070,000,000
.us = 383,000,000
.tw = 121,000,000
.ca = 483,000,000
.jp = 798,000,000

If you want to know any other stats, let me know ;)

Intersting, don't you think? LOL!

I want to add .cn
540,000,000
for me .jp is 570,000,000.
Maybe it depends on what area I am in?

This question needs to be split into two parts.

Firstly, hacked domain names. Li.st sold earlier this year for $5,000. I would imagine that this was purchased for its 'hacked' domain value (hacked = where the suffix is incorporated as part of the domain name word). This kind of 'hacked domain name needs to be treated seperately when considering values of LL domain names (indeed with domain name of any length).

Secondly, as initials or abbreviations. The advantage a LL domain name has is that it is generally readily memorable, this will lead to many being used in future as abbreviations that are not readily recognisable today, an example here could be QZ.?? for Quiz.?? or QuizZone.??. We as domainers have in the past made the mistake that the internet using public are unable to recognise or remember a two letter suffix, although we expect them to remember a 2 letter domain name, or indeed a much longer domain name!

The day when any 2 letter domain name is valuable is a way off, but as the advertising industry continues to make inroads into the internet the day is comming ever closer. By 'way off' I have no crystal ball, but it could be as little as 3 months or as long as 2 years (the time scale of 5-10 years we domainers used to talk in for future developments is of itself well gone).

GoPC, your stats are inflated.

No... the point wasn't how many .coms there are... the point was how many "search returns" there are.

Great post... you didn't mention when the two characters make a WORD in and of themselves. Like "at"

What then?

I feel I am back in the lecture theatre!

If the 2 letter suffix is a 'word' then this makes it relatively easy to market, although here as Ashaw pointed out value of the domain could well then have to do with the suffix, though not so much with geographic user population as with logical inclusion with the suffix. Here an example might be 'to.be' being better and more valuable than 'to.vn'.

Obviously two letters that form a word or two letters that are the same would have more value than most other two letter domains in the same ext simply because they are more rare...

Hi Go, surely you are not asking if you should pay $1,200 for a domain? A decision like that can only be made by you!

The value of a domain name is very subjective, both to seller and buyer. Trying to make an impartial view, it is more than likely that a 3 or more letter domain can be much more valuable than just any 2 letter domain. But yes a 2letter domain can easily be worth $1,200 depending on three things.

Firstly, the investment term invisaged - short/medium/long term.

Secondly, the percieved market and the likelyhood of an end-user or other domainer seeing the 'value' you put on the domain.

Thirdly, the amount of marketing you are willing to put in to selling the domain for the value you percieve it to have.

Hope this helps.

It does... I was just looking for a "general" overview of the value of 2-letter WORD domains particularly due to the fact that most registrars want HUGE money for 1st time reg fees. I was wondering WHY? And if a guy did drop a grand on a LL word dot whatever, if the odds were that he'd ever recover said $1000.

I appreciate your input... it has really helped. Now. off to TW :)
