I'm looking for a good alternative to Frontpage, something easy to use as it's and possibly not too expensive.

In few words, I need a software which may allow me to "open and edit" an html page in few clicks, something very intuitive to use with as much features as possible.

Thanks since now for your suggestions.

After all these years, I still find Notepad (or Word for larger files) unbeatably handy.

Yes nameslave but my request was not clear, I'm realising.
With frontpage, I can edit the page without working directly on the html and I need another software able to do the same thing.

Never tried Macromedia Dreamweaver, I thought always it was a bit complicated to use, I've never followed a course for web designers (or something similar) but I'm beginning to think it's time to do that.

Is Dreamweaver easy to use ? I'm thinking to try its demo ...

You will quickly see that it's a lot more complex than Frontpage!

I see. Macromedia's Dreamweaver has got extensive good reviews (much better than FrontPage) for that purpose, and is becoming the industry standard. But if you want something simpler, NetObjects Fusion is simple enough to start with. And it comes free with some hosts. I got mine with 1and1's promotion.

Hope this helps. :)

Dreamweaver is an excellent program ... so is Adobe Golive ( both I believe offer free trial versions at their sites )

You will also find that either of the above programs create sites that are infinatly more cross-platform compatible and bug free than Frontpage.

Also both can be as easy or as complex as you chose them to be. For brochure sites its incredibly straight forward with a basic familiarity of the app to the most complex sites with databases ect.

Definatly worth looking both over. ( btw...you can easily edit text in either app )

imho

Ok, I try Adobe Golive too, thanks.
Regarding Dreamweaver, is it that software sold around $499 ? I saw something in a near past somewhere, not sure ...
But ok, trying with its trial would not be a bad idea too.

Ok RMF but, do you need to know html in order to use it or it's something similar to frontpage where you can edit the page directly without working on the html ?
Thanks.

Dreamweaver id deep! But it's good as well.

Also, ther are some very good html text-editors out there that help format and troubleshoot hand-coded html. I use BBEdit, which is Mac only I think. It's really great. Two I've heard of for Windows are Home Site and Ultra Edit, but I've never used either one.

And I'm thinking of buying Zend for php coding. I hear it's as good as BBEdit, but for php.

Good Luck!

Yeah, you need know html when using homesite. I guess its not really what you're looking for. html is pretty easy to learn though. You should give it a shot. If I can learn it, anyone can! :)

I think there use to be an option to create sites without coding, and there might still be a way. I haven't really checked. I don't like using those sort of things because the code usually gets a little messed up. The nice thing about homesite is it has various colors for certain tags. Like I said, its like notepad, but advanced.

Oh, there is a table wizard, which is nice.

I think there might be a demo out there, so you could always download it and try it out.

Ok, thanks for your suggestions, I'm going to test all demos ... and, maybe, I'll have to learn html too :)
