After giving this considerable thought, I am thinking about selling the complete rights to my very successful PHP based product called cpLinks.

There are, in fact two products within this family - cpLinks and cpDynaLinks. cpLinks creates static HTML web directory pages and cpDynaLinks creates dynamic pages that are search engine friendly by using mod_rewrite. There are already many successful link and resource directories using these products, mainly because of the major search engine benefits of this technology.

I launched cpLinks in June 2004 and it has rapidly become one of the major free link/resource directory scripts. You can see the Hotscripts ratings here: http://www.hotscripts.com/search/860837.html

You can see that cpLinks has had 6826 hits already and has a good rating score. I released cpDynaLinks on 11th October and it already has 321 hits.

Since the launch of cpLinks, I have earnt about $3000 in revenue (approx $600/month). This is derived from supplying code customisation services and charging $65 for removing the copyrights. There is also an opportunity to charge for advertising on the cpLinks.com web site, which I have not done. If I keep the product, I will also establish a forum, providing more ad revenue possibilities and develop and launch a Pro chargeable version.

cpLinks.com has received 2102 uniques this month (about 120 per day). Its Alexa is only 203,000 at the moment. This is because I moved the whole cpLink website from WebResourceIndex.com (Alexa currently 120,000) at the end of September.

cpLinks.com became a PR5 on its first Google PR update, however as more sites link back to it and become more established themselves, the PR will improve significantly.

So far this month there have been 479 downloads of cpLinks and 188 downloads of cpDynaLinks.

The monthly downloads of cpLinks source code are, as follows:

June 188
July 630
Aug 394
Sept 212
Oct 479

Total: 1903

The earnings stated above are derived purely from cpLinks and now that cpDynaLinks is becoming established, this product will add to the revenue stream (by about 70%).

The sale includes the following domains:

cpLinks.com
cpDynaLinks.com
cpLinksPro.com

I am thinking about selling these products because I have recently landed a significant consultancy contract with a UK based corporate that will require my focus.

I am looking for offers over $10,000 with a buy it now price of $14,000 for this fantastic business opportunity. I will pay PayPal fees, but the buyer is to pay any Escrow fees.

I will answer any questions by PM or by this thread.

Thanks for your interest

Just wondering what percentage of the $3000 is from the "remove copyright" option? Also $3000 is your total revenue, but what is your profit, when you subtract the time you have worked on the customization jobs?

Thanks,

Peter

4 sites have paid the $65 to remove the copyright so far.

Also $3000 is your total revenue, but what is your profit, when you subtract the time you have worked on the customization jobs?

The customisation revenue is directly related to the customisation time expenditure as I charge $25/hour for PHP cpLinks development. I am a PHP developer. You could use third party developers and charge more. I have actually "earnt " far more than this not least because cpLinks was instrumental in me winning this significant corporate consultancy/development work, but its not fair to factor that into revenue actuals and projections :)

I have been considering developing and marketing packaged upgrade modules, whereby there is a time (cost) investment in developing a particular upgrade module, but then you reap the revenue by charging for that package x times.

There are a significant number of user suggested enhancements that would be perfect for that modular approach. I will give the purchaser this list.

A buyer has just had to pull out as he couldn't raise the funds, so this is still for sale. I am open to sensible offers.

whats the minimum

so basically most of the $600/month was expenses as you spent time doing the customizations? Not really any true profit? I may be interested.

whats the minimum

I will consider sensible offers, so I have no "minimum" in mind. This is a valuable property so offers must reflect that.

I take your point about it earning development revenue, however If I don't sell it, my strategy will be to either develop the chargeable modules mentioned above, or more likely, turn them into chargeable products for the next version release. I have two key features in mind, that have been suggested by happy users, which are easy to implement and present an opportunity to move the products into chargeable assets.

I am only selling because of the new business commitments mentioned above.

will there be restrictions like last time when you were selling it when you said that there had to be certain links that cannot be removed? or something wasn't included last time you posted on DNForum?

No. When I launched cpLinks in June I initially ran the cpLinks "site" from a WebResourceIndex sub directory (http://www.webresourceindex.com/free_scripts/). When I moved the site to cpLinks.com in September I wanted to ensure that people who were used to looking for it at WebResourceIndex could find it and update their bookmarks etc. I wasn't selling cpLinks then, I was selling WebResourceIndex.com, which is now sold (and I'm sure that the new owner of that site, could vouch for me).

Incidentally this is why the Alexa rating for cpLinks.com is only 190,000 ish. WebResourceIndex had an Alexa of about 90,000 when cpLinks was part of the site. With the traffic that cpLinks.com gets, I would expect the Alexa rating to be significantly less than 90,000 within a few months because there are now two cpLinks products.

As I need a decision about this sale I have decided to place a buy it now price of $6000. Buyer to pay Escrow, I'll pay the PayPal fees.

If I don't get this amount I will keep the products myself and find time to develop them further.
