In the past I have been a little critical of a few moderators at dnf for occasionally deleting posts or threads (a rare event anyway). However, after visiting (and posting a bit) at a few other forums, of which webmasterworld forum is the most notable I am really impressed by the great leeway and latitude members of dnf get, the opposite of my past thoughts on this.

For example, at webmasterworld dot com you are not allowed to post anything at all negative about the forum or actions of the Mods. Anything even mildly negative is instantly deleted by mods. Plus they do not even bother to tell the member about deletions or the why, even if you ask they refuse to give explanations other than saying nothing negative is ever allowed. Talk about un-democratic.

They also are poor at some forums in replying to member PM's re concerns or issues but dnf is excellent in that regard for the most part. I have also seen large well written educational posts deleted which cover say 5 subjects but only because just 1 subject was considered a sensitive subject or involved a possible legal issue the entire post is trashed with little if any explanation.

The other forums also ban far more members than dnf from what I can see. But here at dnf DCG and Mods are great in that they allow almost anything to be posted including negative stuff sometimes and rarely ban members. Look how they alllowed Bidawinner back after all that crap that went on. Look how they did not ban whois-search after lots of difficulty.

Keep up the great work DCG and all Mods.

They do a great job here. Dnforum went thru a one time cleansing and that really set the tone for the professionalism you see today. Whois is back, along with some other members and that is good to see. Nice post realnames

Nice post RealNames!

It ain't easy being a moderator,as many members won't do biz with you if you have modded their threads in a negative way.

but i do get a lot of pm's for help and assistance, which i give without hesitation.
also DCG has done a lot for the forum in general and the moderators specifically!

Thanks for the nice post RN. I have only been doing this a short time, but I wouldn't be doing it at all if I thought the job meant being heavy-handed and repressive of the membership.

A little anarchy in moderation is good for the soul :-D

An occasional word of support is definitely welcome. As Bid can certainly testify, modding is often a thankless job, especially since we are all human..... with all the faults, raw feelings and sometimes strongly felt personal viewpoints being human brings with it.

But I must say that Adam (DotComGod) has really lead the way here, and has been amazingly accepting and forgiving of past transgressions, and I believe has made some friends along the way. He has shown himself to be a pretty damn decent guy. We (mods) have taken that cue from him, and seek each day only to have this very unique place be not only a very professional domain forum, but also a friendly, safe place to do business, make & build relationships and even make friends (AS WELL AS SOME MONEY)!!

From my POV, Adam and the Mods have nothing to prove. They don't have the idea that just because they have positions of station so to speak, they have to be bad-mannered or self-indulgent in their maintenance and relationships here. The reason for that is that this board exudes CONFIDENCE. These guys are confident in their abilities and confident in the stature of this site in the market. It's easy to see that there has been investment here.

I have just started my own little niche board -- nothing to do with domain names, but it's building slowly and I have now just started to attract some regulars. There are a good few competitive and behemoth boards that do what I do -- but the webmasters and support staff are just plain peed-off. I know they have at least one 'Trojan' on my board and I was quick to make mention of the fact that I thought that the board he was from was excellent. He then came out of the woodwork and acknowledged his identity.

I suppose what I am saying, and not 'licking boots' either, is that if you are confident with your abilities and take pride in what you do, there's no need to be heavy-handed. Good manners instills confidence, and heavy-handedness, contempt.
