I need your help.

I have a buyer who started a bid on my MED(.)mobi at $100, then $200, then $1,000. The buyer also claimed the recent sell of:
loancalculator.mobi -$1500
beat.mobi -$3000
eat.mobi -$6700

Med is a premium name. I had originally quoted it as $7,000 and went down to $6,000. Do you think i should agree to the $1,000 offer and put it on the Sedo auction? Or should i reject his offer and wait for a year or another buyers higher offer?

Any advice would help.
Thanks,
Jonathan

Beyond a doubt, DO NOT SELL!

This is not even a 7K name.

I would gladly give you 7k for it if I was not so knee deep in taxes at the moment.

This is not any three letter domain name. It is a word, a powerful word, with a universally recognized meaning.

In my opinion, you are looking at 25K minimum...undeveloped...and that's lowball.

This is a gem among gems.

Think of where .mobi will be, think of the global market and marketing and uses behind this name.

A directory of all hospitals, emergency services and clinics and doctors offices pinpointed via GPS no matter where you are. Not just you, but every one.

The only way I would take this to auction is with a steep reserve. This would give it grand exposure and you would have a huge audience knowing it is out there and available...for the right price.

Don't send to sedo auction.
I learned my lesson on this.
It's patrolled by 99% resellers.
As much as we would all love to own the name, most resellers have to pay bottom whack as you know, unless they can flip quick or wanna develop.
It may be a reseller offering $1k, as its still in that range, but if it's an enduser, nail him in the situation you're in. ie; dont send to auction cos prob. noone will bid it over 1.5k
I would counter with 10k & look for 6/7k
We all need to bag a few sales early.
Or hold, it would be no great hardship. Depends on your cashflow, its why we all have to sell.
This could get $xx,xxx low - mid a year from now at traffic or elsewhere.
Good Luck

Forget the MEDical side of things.

Think beyond that. Think MEDiterranean as in Club Med and every resort, cruise line, travel agency you can think of.

The countries on the MEDiterranean Sea:

Albania
Algeria
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Croatia
Cyprus
Egypt
France
Greece
Israel
Italy
Lebanon
Libya
Malta
Monaco
Montenegro
Morocco
Slovenia
Spain
Syria
Tunisia
Turkey

Major Islands like Sicily and Sardinia

The rich and famous party here.

Dont put to auction unless your happy with the amount or near as dammit happy anyway, in the hope to squeeze an extra bit out of it. I'd personally wait for a low $xx,xxx offer then send to auction! No way send it at $1000!!! As Doc Com said there are more than just medical uses for the blighter! Good luck with your decision Jon.

Jonathan,

Check the thread on the silent auction for Europe.mobi

Consider contacting Moniker for inclusion in the next Amsterdam or New York auction with a decent reserve.

I don't understand....all of you think it is such a great name. Why is no one offering him $1500, $2000 or more. He is ready to sell.

Just trying to sort through the hype.

He is asking for and receiving sound advice based on trends and market analysis and current auction results.

This is not hype, but the facts speak for themselves.

I'll give him $1500 right now for it. And laugh my ass off as I will be the next to take it to a stellar auction.

I don't do people that way and some others don't. If he were to post it for sale as $1000K then it would be gone.

Some people think in terms of aiding and assisting others rather than ****ing them over, no offense to you or anyone else present.

Me personally, I play a little different. I play the game as if I were on the other side of the ball. My name, my appraisal, my wanting to learn and seek advice.

I think if you treat people decently and respectfully, it will come back in some form or fashion. Perhaps not in dollars and sense. But in knowing you offered sound and practical advice.

I know, boo hoo...what a sob story. At least its not an S.O.B. story.

Yeah, I'd hold on to it if I were you.

$1K will be spent pretty quickly and that's a keeper.

Why don't you develop it a bit?

Grab a list capture tool go through and pull all the contact info from the yellow pages or some medical listings directories... so you have a populated database..

Then make it sortable by area and specialty.. so you can find a podiatrist on your phone.

The whole thing would be relatively simple to code up (simple contact database / directory site really), serving it in XHTML on a small screen is a pretty easy page layout..

Suddenly you'd have a developed .mobi domain, instead of just a domain name, drive a little traffic to it and you're instantly looking at doubling your value, if not more.

Heck, you'll probably find you can sell "top spot" like any other directory on the web to DR. Offices in a specific city for $20/M or something... Probably won't even want to sell it, it'll be making you so much cash.

:) That's what I'd do anyway :)

I bet you could get it done on Rent A Coder for less than the $1K you were going to get.. (I'd post it as a $500 project and see what you get - do the list capture and database populating yourself and hand the coding over to someone else.

That's my 2 cents on it.

 If I had the 1.5K to play with right now, I'd grab it from you....
Trade you though for some of mine if you like :) Here's my domain name list, see if there's anything you'd like.

OMG, I just looked at your profile, you already ARE a coder?
what are you waiting for?
The rest of us need to hire out the skills, you've already got them. :)

I'd develop it a bit and sit on it for a year, bet you'll get more for it.

And hey.. inc.mobi? :) NICE ONE... someone wasn't sleeping at the keyboard when .mobi launched.

Do not send it too auction without at least a 5k bid...I would not be suprised if only resellers bid on it. I sent a decent .mobi to auction and it went no where...I wish I had kept it.

I also discovered that sedo usually only puts the .com auctions on the home page...never once was my .mobi auction on the home page...even in the last minutes of the auction.

i hear ya about the darn taxes. I really didnt know how good of a name this is since i have been busy with the development of some of the .mobis i have and also my job. Also i havent known what other names MED could be used for! You have some pretty good ideas for med(.)mobi. I see in your signature that you are looking for medical domain names. You seem to know what you are talking about. Thank you for your advice. i never

You always have a good hold on reality when it comes to domains. Im sorry to hear about your lesson. Im not really hurting for money at the moment. So how do names usually get purchased? is it through private negotiations from direct contacting?

Thank you for your advice! I know that it has only been 6 months since the launch of .mobi. It has been kinda slow getting .mobi in the general public. I hope some doc buys my name, but from what DocCom wrote, there are some good ideas that i could develop this site into something.

Ok ... I offer $2500
hahaha! better than $1k!

Yeah, I'd hold on to it if I were you.

$1K will be spent pretty quickly and that's a keeper.

Why don't you develop it a bit?

As for the other .mobi that i had, i gave up on it. it was costing me money that i didnt have at the time. at least i had it first! ;)

love the "list capture" tool! you seem quite resourceful with the links that you have. Your 2 cents was worth more! thank you! I have so many other .mobis and working on "sancha.info" which is a plush city that i live in tokyo. When i got the .mobi names, i felt as a kid in a candy store. I stopped parking them on sedo cause i lost a very good name (***.mobi). I think that you are right and that i should develope simple sites for now and then get into hard coding when i have the time.

Med.mobi is better than all three of those. I'd either:

1) Hold on to it
2) Give it to me :)

I don't see you taking option #2, so hold on to it..

I appreciate your proposal, but i think that i should go with option #1! lol!

Sedo has been kinda fishy to me. From what Pred stated, i think its best to be contacted directly instead of using "macDonalds-like" auction services. I think personally sedo doesnt like .mobi so .mobi isnt listed on the main page IMO

Thank you everyone for your reply! Your support is very much appreciated. I have cancelled the auction.

Hi mate,
forgot to mention. Although it has the 'medical' connotations & obviously Doc has tuned into that
For me , when i see it , as a European , i instantly think of the mediterranean.
Probably the hottest holiday location (financially speaking) on the earth, with the variety too.
I can see a large holiday operator paying a fair old sum for this baby
