Memorial Day -

A tip of the hat and a salute to all who have lost someone or know someone that gave their life for our freedoms.

I come from a long line of veterans in the family (my late Grandfather was a fighter pilot in WWI having flown with the infamous "Hat In the Ring" 94th squadron led by Capt. Eddie Richenbacker) and have family members still proudly serving.


To all fellow veterans, thank you for your service.

To all active duty soldiers, thank you for your continued vigilance and commitment.

Quite a collection.

HBO just finished with their premiere of their latest project, Pacific.

It was exceptional.

The series was based on the true story/lives of survivors of participants of the actual battles.

Tom Hanks, Spielberg, and others went to great lengths to make all of it appear authentic.

The characters in the movie were playing real life characters. The story line was based not only on historical events, but the letters and memoirs of some of these soldiers. I've since looked up many of the contributors and plan on reading a few of their books.

It is incredible the number of this generation dying every day. There is an enormous effort locally to get the veterans to DC to experience the new WWII memorial. Incredible as it may seem, the local effort (called Flight of Honor) just completed their third mission of getting these veterans to DC. All expenses are paid by donations. Thus far, 3 charter flights carrying more than 300 local vets have been flown to the memorial courtesy of local supporters and donations. This is such a remarkable feat in today's economy and from family and non-family support to pull this off and get these veterans to a memorial dedicated to them.
