Method Of Avoiding CopyRighted Names.

There are names like Microsoft/ Google/ Yahoo and all other names which are trade-marked. If you want to buy a domains name with those trade-marked names you can not win those names in lawsuit.

But is the following method effective ?

Say, my name is "Johny Microsoft", so I have a natural right to register any domain with my surname = Microsoft. So if I register www.MicrosoftDomainName.com can Microsoft win a lawsuit for using their trade-marked "Microsoft" name ? Because my surname is "Microsoft", so do I have a natural right to register www.MicrosoftDomainName.com without falling in the copy-right/ trade-mark laws ?

Is that correct ?

If your plan is to have your last name changed to Microsoft, and register a microsoft domain later, it's not going to work my friend. If your determined to have a domain that contains "microsoft" I suggest you contact a domain attorney.

Droplister provides a link to the Mike Rowe case, I really think the kid could have won that case if he pursued it, but he settled instead.

The link says :

Microsoft company spokesman Jim Desler said Sunday, "Microsoft has been in communication with Mr. Rowe in a good faith effort to reach a mutually agreeable resolution."

"to reach a mutually agreeable resolution" means that Microsoft knows there are natural right to people to register domains of their own name (full name / first name / last name).

Also it seemd from teh above quotation that microsoft will pay Mike Rowe some of the 10,000 bucks, if not full. :smilewinkgrin:
