Not worth anything, IMO. Here's the problem...

The placename is 南アルプス "Southern Alps"

The Alps part is represented in Katakana as アルプス.

This could arguably literally be transcribed as arupusu. Or alupusu.

But since it comes from an English word in the first place, in practice going back into English even the official city site uses "alps" not "arupusu" i.e. http://www.city.minami-alps.yamanashi.jp/
