Before anyone wastes their money, I need to point out something.

PLEASE think WHY the user would type in the URL into their phones. There are still many 1-word/2-word .mobis available, but they are useless for the user.

I dont want to be the .mobi professor, but I want to save us as a group and contribute to this extension. I want to save us from being constantly attacked and humiliated from .mobi-haters since they see us as a group. Lets stay strong together. :cheesy::cheesy::cheesy:

I have seen a lot of good names and I have seen a few bad names.
Here are some good names:

AS SINGLE WORD:
attorney.mobi
lenders.mobi

WITH HYPHENS (cause they are much similar to "spaces" in searches):
porn-movie.mobi
Music-download.mobi

AS TYPOS:
poQn.mobi (the "R" is on the same key on a mobile phone as "Q" and it is possible that a keypad could get stuck or a user doesnt press hard enough)

Words like those are ok. But if you were to have a .mobi with:
supercalifragilisticexpialadocious.mobi or greatness.mobi or rust.mobi or field.mobi, There is no purpose.

Misspells are ok as long as its commonly confusing. Please check on the internet for "most confused spelling words" (or something like that). Dont just assume.

If you have any opinions, please make a post. I just wanted to point out that just you find a 1-letter or 2-letter name, dont just buy it. Figure out its purpose for users to enter directly in the URL. A lot of .mobi haters and lovers have commented on some of your names cause they think that you are treating .mobi as .com. Correct. .mobi is NOT .com. .com is NOT .mobi. They are completely different in user access and purpose.

Think :smartass:. Think . Think .

You all that are buying .mobis are pioneers of .mobi - NOT .com .
Do NOT follow the path of .com
DO follow the users purpose of accessing your .mobi while they are away from the pc and with their mobile phone.

Some people may write ".mobi has no purpose at all". If they knew the purpose, they would be buying names. They are not buying the names cause they see no purpose. Maybe we are the fortunate that sees this purpose. but some .mobi lovers buy .mobis and see no purpose at all. They are simply just buying .mobis. STOP! Think before you buy.

I hope that this has helped some of you. I would like to hear what you think!

I think your correct MobileDesigner, but generic or short words will always be higher than reg fee whatever the genre, i know some mobi lovers out there are regging some stupidly long ones in the end it's their money going down the drain. But i think to get an idea of your domain you should try punching it into your phone as a tester. Just to see how long it takes etc etc. Mine has T9 on it so as long as the names in english it should predict the word so mine could be a little easier than others!

Another great post by Mobile Designer!!

I totally agree with you comments. I think it is important that we stay focused on the future uses of the .mobi domain. It is not .com and was not meant to be, it was created for a special purpose. We need to keep that in mind when registering names.

The next step is to develop websites. I think those of us on this board who see the potential of this extension need to take the time, and spend the money to develop attractive and useful websites for mobile users.

When the public becomes aware of this extension they will want to see websites that they can use. If they find parked sites and dead ends they will be turned off.

We are all waiting for the ball to start rolling; we can all help push it along. Several people on this board own hundreds of .mobi's. Collectively we can have a positive influence on it's future.

Many thinks to those of you already working for the future of .mobi,
it will benefit all of us.

I picked up ADDD.mobi , AGGG.mobi ,AJJJ.mobi on the basis that they are easy to type in , 4 actions plus send ?

I agree with you! Even a one word is worth more than the regfee.
As for your T9, I had no idea that the phones where you are have a predictable dictionary. We have phones here in bilingual Japanese and English. The English version does not have the predictable dictionary whereas the Japanese does (which really helps me cause I am not a native Japanese speaker). Well, as long as the word is in the dictionary, it should be worth more than the regfee. But of course the name itself should have an impact of the price, right?

So correct! We need to have those .mobi sites developed. If there were more mobile affiliates, that would help us more than having them parked on sedo. We just keep them there for the time-being.

I have a "phone plan" where I pay $200/month and I can access the mobile internet as much as I want. With a lot of the .mobi names i saw, i searched them and saw nothing or a 404 or Sedo or Godaddy. I think that potential buyers or surfers really would not like to see that. And if they want to buy the .mobi, they still have to access the pc!

If you simply put up a 1-page for your .mobi site, you can place at the bottom, for sale by owner and your phone number and email: If you dont know the code, its simply like this:

**************cHTML/xHTML*******************
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

OH! save it as "index.html". You dont have to save it as "xHTML". Just be sure that the doctype states "xhtml". Mtld really doesnt care.

What do those abbreviations mean? Why did you choose those names? You only stated that they are easy to type in the phone. Good point noting that they are 4 presses, but have you ever thought of using:
(Maybe Pred is going to reg these names):
- adgm.mobi
- tmtm.mobi
- adad.mobi
- dada.mobi
etc....
Your names are kind of easy to remember. I think that i will be shot for saying this, but your names (i think) are worth more than regfee.

I personally do not feel the need to justify my choice of registrations, don't really see why you should be overly concerned about the opinions of others, they will either - be in favo/ur, be against, or neutral.

I did consider the names you mentioned but felt that if three of the letters were on the same first key then that would be more beneficial than other combinations.

I also registered Looney.mobi which a lot of people think I am

Also own WebEnabledMobile.com which covers all mobi's ?

I think both ADDD and DADA will have a value. The fact is all LLL.mobi were quickly reg'd. So it makes sense that memorable and easy to enter LLLL.mobi's will eventually have value. Also, if you may have noticed the the 'f'irst touch' keypad letters, A,D,G,J,M,P,T,W were the first to go in the LLL rush. So if you use those you should be improving your chances of getting a winner.

Of course, we all need to be realistic, no one should be thinking that they can reg a random .mobi and expect to sell it in a short time. Everyone needs to remember that this is not a Sprint, it is a Marathon.

Hang in .mobi believers, there is a party down the road.

Good points Jonathan.....

There are a LOT of "investors" wasting other peoples hard earned $ on the promise that .Mobi is the "new .Com" these people may have already found out the hard way as some .Mobis have decreased since purchase.....

Single word, generic words with MEANING will, as stated by other in the thread, always have an intrinsic value to Internet users, regardless of how or why they access the web / net / etc

The important and most valid part of a GOOD .Mobi and the future of why it will be used, is that many people that use the "cell / mobile" as a point of reference.... a mobile white pages.... to find out simple, everyday facts and infomation.....

We are not talking webdesigners, teckies wierdos, 24/7 source programmers using their mobiles to access forums  we are talking everyday, normal(ish) day to day routine people that want to know something....

A typical .Mobi value would be.... "oh darling can you book some tickets to go to see Phantom of the Opera" husband types in Phantom, phone recalls the mobi site, user keys in "oyster/mobkey/paykey or whatever form of secure payment the cell operator uses" books tickets and thats it....

The keyword or short key entry on a mobile WILL be very important.... yes it will take a while for the west to catch up with the east as far as content is concerned but the actual user will still want the same thing....

Lawyer.Mobi and variations will make bundles as the information portals will make them worth visiting.... as will many other .Mobis registered....

Easy keypresses and numeric .Mobis WILL be worth bundles too...:cheesy:

Parking / InfoPortals / Directory sites will be the winners.....

I understand that shorter domains are better as they relate to the reseller market because they are in demand. But IMO as long as you have a well searched for term you will be OK as it relates to Mobi sales.

Just becase you have ABC.mobi doesn't mean anyone will type it into their phone when they are looking for something specific. If I'm looking for tickets I'm going to try: tix.mobi, tickets.mobi cheaptickets.mobi, buytix.mobi etc.

(I'm going to make sure "buytix.mobi" is already gone) :)

Based on the above names, does it require some extra effort to key in repeating letters like freee.mobi, or a shift from numbers to letters like 53x.mobi, or letters using the same number key like a & b?

AMEN! I'm stunned by some of the regs that people are coming up with. Yes, I've got generics that aren't very likely to be keyed into a phone, but they are VERY generic and should make at least decent returns eventually. Otherwise, everything I reg absolutely has to pass the "potential mobile-app sniff test."

Keep banging this drum.

I have heard that the user doesnt have to switch in some countries. As for Japan, the following carriers must enter the letters as such:

(for example - 53x.mobi)
DoCoMo = j-k-l-5, d-e-f-3, w-x (10 keypresses)

AU KDDI = J-K-L-j-k-l-5, D-E-F-d-e-f-3, W-X-Y-w-x (19 keypresses)

Softbank (Previously Vodafone) =

1. OLD MODELS = (switch to numers) 5, 3, (switch to alphabet) x
(5 keypresses)
2. NEW MODELS = j-k-l-5, d-e-f-3, w-x (10 keypresses)

(for example - freee.mobi)
DoCoMo = d-e-f, p-q-r, d-e (next button), d-e (next button),
d-e (14 keypresses)

AU KDDI = D-E-F-d-e-f, P-Q-R-p-q-r, D-E-d-e (pause), D-E-d-e (pause), D-E-d-e (24 keypresses)

Softbank (Previously Vodafone) =

1. OLD MODELS = D-E-F-d-e-f, P-Q-R-p-q-r, D-E-d-e (pause), D-E-d-e (pause), D-E-d-e (24 keypresses)

2. NEW MODELS =D-E-F-d-e-f, P-Q-R-p-q-r, D-E-d-e (pause), D-E-d-e (pause), D-E-d-e (24 keypresses)

Does anyone else know of any other different phones with different keypress entries?
(damn, I feel like a nerd...:smartass: )
