i have an iphone... mobile optimized websites (not JUST mobi domains) tend to fit on the screen better... this will become the preferred method of viewing on mobile devices in the future... with OR without mobi.
saying the "full web" being viewed on a 3 inch screen is preferred is like saying you prefer to watch movies on your home TV that were formatted for a huge movie theater screen... having the option to do so is nice.. but a more optimized method is preferred.
I went to the local AT&T store newly build down the road. I had to check out the iPhone.
Actually, not just the iphone, but most cellular phones in general remind me of the old microfiche.
But particularly on the iphone, you are scrolling whether you want to touch with your fingers or press a button. I looked at full web sites and went to New York Times and USA Today.
Great! I had the entire newspaper in the palm of my hand.
Now what?
Some feel the iPhone is magic. But it is still not new technology, you still have to "scroll with your fingers", and you still have the full blown .com site that is difficult to navigate. Plus, even in Wi-Fi or Edge, it still took considerable time to load.
Then...
I showed the guys and gals a few .mobi sites.
And I showed them the Helio Ocean. I showed them the fast 3G network, the .com sites formatted to fit the screen, the HTML mode, and the .mobi sites on the Ocean.
The overall response?
Whoa! (Ocean and .mobi)
That's cool! (Ocean and .mobi and surf reports on SDCA.mobi)
You better get that out of here! (chuckling) (Ocean)
Where'd you get that? (Ocean)
Will that work on any phone? (.mobi)
