Because of my email account, I need to use their dialup connection every few months or they will delete my email account.

I have tried to use my dialup modem but for some reason when its trying to dial a number it sounds weird, and its unable to ring the number.

I have tried tone and pulse, neither work and I'm getting close to the deletion date.

Any ideas on how to fix it?
 
Maybe it's a digital line rather than analog? Have you replaced your modem? They only cost about $10 these days, if you can find one. As an alternative, most cell phones can double as a modem. If you have the adapter (normally usb), connect it long enough to log in & keep your account active.
 
Thanks for the reply South, it turned out that the driver was destroyed by a Windows update.
 
When I first saw this thread I thought it was about the (really bad) movie "Modern Problems" starring Chevy Chase.

Thank god it wasn't. :D
