.mp domains?

Can someone explain them and are they a true "top level" domain... are they going to be used by everyone? Is it worth registering some of them?

not .com on the end but it sounds like a waste of money .mp (mobile phone) doesnt make any sense

I never heard of .mp, in my opinion, .com-.net-.biz-.org-.info-.name... I am not interested in other extentions, except .eu , lol....
