Hi.

.Music (DOT MUSIC) Surpasses 2 Million Supporters for the .music Domain Name Extension
New York, NY (PRWEB) February 3, 2010 -- .music (DOT MUSIC) has surpassed 2 million global subscribers, friends, followers, fans and petitioners across social media platforms, including Twitter, MySpace and Facebook. It is a clear, powerful showing of support to the much-anticipated .music Top-Level Domain (TLD).

"The .music domain extension is about giving the global music community a unique identity and a highly visible home on the web that represents their brand name, their music and music-related products and services, “says Constantine Roussos, founder and CEO of .music. “The .music domain extension presents a compelling opportunity for artists and bands to monetize and protect their music, gain exposure, and participate in a global, collective movement to connect. Music is truly the universal, unifying language.” Article Continues ~~ SOURCE AND LINKS

Costa Roussos' campaign bid to operate the .music extension registry is a tour de force, imo...

Is another useless (yes, mostly useless) domain extension a dream?

Something could happen with .music if big industries, bands, radio stations, etc start using it as their main domain (iTunes). It's still another useless extension though when they can just use the above mentioned .fm (which had hype that died) or just their already, .com.

Personally, I think that the term 'music' is just way too vague. I still can't understand why anyone would even think of using something as unbelievably uselessly vague as, say, .COM for their domain name. Just think of all the time wasted! Who would ever guess what might be at 'iTunes.com'! I propose that ICANN needs to get way more specific. Its their solomn duty to help registrars wring money from anyone that they can. Here are some ideas:

.JazzCombo
.OneManBand
.NewWavePunk
.PianoPlayingCat
.TalentlessCuteCelebutantSortOfSinging
.WashedUpOldRockerSingingOtherPeoplesOldTunes
.GarageBandThatWillNeverMakeIt-ReallyBad-AndWeDontMeanGood

The only limits should be extensions with a maximum of 67 numbers, hyphens, or letters. The ability of someone to cough up a few hundred thousand to pay ICANN is very important too. Doubtlessly, some registrar will get 'exclusive' rights for a land rush so that a bunch of fools that have decided that 'this is the next big thing' in domains can loose their money. Short prefix names such as 'KK.PianoPlayingCat' will be especially coveted and doubtless demand their own special land rush at a later date even after the extension has been proved to be generally useless.
