Sorry for causing the debate between seeker and deter. Nonetheless, I'm sure alot of us learn alot of things from different points of views. At least I did. The idea about concluding ".ws" is a bad extension at first sight is a very very bad conclusion. Just look back into the past and see how long have .com/.net/.org been around compared to .ws? And look at how many premiums .ws have been sold or what are their prices right now in the market? Not to say they're comparable to a .com (like animal.com compare to animal.ws) but this is all about a matter of time. As for the hyphen, I can't help to agree it is a very very good search words but also because of its hyphen, it rather ruined its value. But when you do a search, it still comes out the same isn't it? Just try typing in "music download" in yahoo, and type in "music-download" in yahoo again. What results do you get? In google, music download comes to 14million, music-download comes to 2.8million and yet musicdownload comes to only 57k? Yes, it is definitely impossible to register a "music<blank>download.ws" and so we go for musicdownload which comes out to 57k searches. In this sort of domains, you need to have the word "music" & "download" to make it musicdownload. You can't have a premium music.ws or download.ws cos' they can't bring to the visitors the meaning of "downloading music". And of course, there are many ugly domains who make use of - to get away with alot of things. But for this case, I find it created a pleasant looking domain. Of course in the view of a big big corporation who can afford a few thousands of dollars for a dollar, this domain is simply worthless because of its hyphen and extension. But for normal users like me (definitely), I guess we can only afford a music-download.ws rather than music.com or download.com. Nonetheless, I do like discussions regarding a value of a domain. And won't mind having the discussions in my thread at all. Thanks alot guys for giving me the most honest appraisal you can give me. I appreciate that alot. :)

Ok .. this thread started less that 2 weeks ago.. and I know how hard headed people can be so to prove my point I PM'd "Jon" and asked him if it would be alright If I registered his name in the .Info and with a hyphen . I regged Jon-wheatly.info

I made ONLY one page and I added just 1 low pr3 link a Off Topic link.. just something the SE bots to follow.

2 weeks later one very lame I page "website" ..intentionally ..just to prove the point

and out of 60,000 results for the search term Jon Wheately.. Jon-Wheatly.info ranks 35th ! Googs

Easily the same thing under .ws ..I just regged the.info because it was $1.95 ! lol

extesnion makes no difference hyphens can make a difference

Jon you have a godady account ?send me your contact info and I'l get the name pushed over to you..

There's over 2.3 Million forthe term music downloads.. so wouldn't you want a name that is going to give you an advantage ? Music-Download

seeings as how that is the exact term searched for by over 6.6 MILLION people everymonth on overture
http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

The point is very simple ...use everything to your advantage..not one single thing will get you to the top of the serps and we aretalking about a search term that has nearly 7 million monthly searches..that gives the domain value because it is an exact match ...

And If you are talking about a phrase then using the hyphen adds value because the se's still find phrases better when they are hyphenated

Having just the hypen will not get you to the top
Having the exact search phrase will not get you to the top

Having one or both DOES increase your ranking because they are are included in the search engines algos. This isn't brain surgery.. it's very simple ..

relevency matters
