For Sale Name Catchers

We all know that Whois-Search does an outstanding job of alway knowing
"who" is catching for "whom".

Since, a number of new registrars have come on stream. I thought I would
do a quick analysis of how many registrars are in each group.

Here is the raw data:

Pool.................47.....32%
Enom...............27.....18%
Misc. catchers...22.....15%
SnapNames.......16......10%

Buy Domains......12.......8%
Name Admin........8.......5%

Total................149......99%


Also, remember. There is a difference between quality and quantity.
A lot of amateur catchers might not equal one professional catcher (NameScout).

What would be more interesting to know. Is how many of the above registrars
caught names dropping/expiring on that day. Not including new registrations.

That is what would be the most important info to know.

Does anyone know how to do that?

yes sure, its possible... all you have to do is load the previous day's pending delete names (drop list) and run a whois on those names, which should take no more then five minutes and then the tricky part is organizing and grouping the newly registered domains by each registrar, anybody who has coded and has experience in programming domain software should be able to simply sort out "results" according to a certain pre-defined "string"

It looks like drop club (Not ENOM Club Drop) have 8 registrars working for them. Anyone know their URL? Also, whats their success rate?

Marketscript i made "drop club" up to mean either they catch for themselves or for a few companies - they are not linked.

I just noticed dotforce.com now catch for Pool e.g. weddinggames.com

Also Buydomains just got yapa.net with nameshare.com - could even be namewinner

I'm just waiting for someone other than me to post about who's getting the biggest names (in com/net, since we don't catch org yet). Our 27 vs. Pool's 47 (now 57), yet we're getting about 50/50.

Chris, I assume when you say "getting the biggest names" are the domains
that are on the everyones catch list. And, also have high pre-bids.

Plus, you estimate which names would have high appeal. (3 letter .com and .net,
short, one word domains, and names that have key words like sex, etc.)

I assume you then put them high on the priority list that you supply to the your
other club registrars.

But, my initial question is - Who is catching more (quantity) of the names expiring
each day?

If, for example, 20,000 names are expiring on a particular day. And, lets' say
8,000 (???) are renewed within the first hour. Who caught them?

And, Chris, I believe your statement is directed towards the top 1,000?

Has anyone attempted to do this? I think it would be fascinating to see the actual numbers instead of listening to the claims of those who are not in the position to be objective on this subject. It is my contention that the numbers don't lie.
