It was important enough to be in the news so any laymen should be concerned and stay away for awhile until its safe. I think that is a fair statement.

There are control freak admins at NP.
But why do threads disappear at DNF?

Hope all will be well ! If issues are there, NP will definitely address them. Someone making the SLA should have taken care @ that point of time rather coming as a surprise now ;)

Dear Adam and Domain Name News,

This is Ron James, webmaster of NamePros. I understand the need to boost
ratings, but your “NamePros Gets Outted” headline smacks of overly-sensational
journalism.

If you read the study that you are basing this article, it says (as Acro
rightly pointed out) that NamePros is included due to our use of Feedjit.

Feedjit is a traffic stats program we have been using as an alternative to
Google Analytics. I have never gotten any kind of access to a user’s browsing
history through this service or any others. The stats are in real time,
but are otherwise fairly usual.

According to the most recent TechCrunch story there are there are 530,000
sites using the same service. http://techcrunch.com/2010/06/07/feedjit/

The research study only included the top 50,000 ranked Alexa sites. I was
unaware that NamePros would end up being the top ranked Alexa site using Feedjit
(after Feedjit itself) or that our use of Feedjit would get us “outted” on
Domain Name News for something we do not do.

Is our choice of stats program is really that newsworthy? If so, I look
forward to being “outted” on my choice of domain registrar or what hosting
company we use for our servers.

But in all seriousness, if there are legitimate privacy issues with our site
or services we use, I will be happy to address them here on this blog, on
NamePros, or privately by email. My email address is
rj{at}namepros.com

Sincerely,

Ron James

i visit dnf about 10-50 times a day.

Slacker. You can do better :)

browser history sniffing

Seriously.. So what? Everyone else is tracking what you do / where you go. As long as they weren't trying to steal passwords or otherwise trying to compromise users security, they are no worse than most of the internet.

From google privacy statement:

In addition to ads based on interest categories, Google allows advertisers (including Google) to show you ads based on your previous interactions online, such as visits to advertisers’ websites. For example, someone who visited the website of an online sporting goods store can receive ads about special offers from that store.

I am working on that :) lol

Lets have a contest to see who can visit dnf more than user SIKHboy!
(Each visit would have to accomplish something, not just a login)

Also: while i prefer dnf, I would be surprised if namepros did this.
I dont think the benefit is worth the risk/downside.

From my perspective regarding Ron James and Namepros:

Ron has always acted professionallly towards Dnforum and me and I appreaciate that.

Ron has now stated they will be removing the offending code and this will resolve the issue.

I don't think it's fair to blame Nampros for this since it was just stats codes causing the harm that I am sure Ron was unaware of.

Comment from Ron James on dnn.

Feedjit has yet to address this, therefore we will be taking our business elsewhere for traffic stats.

Bipolar DN world is preferable to the unipolar.
This way control freaks are kept in check.

I know RJ well and am 100% certain it is not something he would knowingly put on NP and believe what he says to be true. I'm glad you understand this as well.

oh yeah. It's back to italicized. Admins are probably working on it. The profile seems to be getting fixed.

Deleted my account at namepros after being told that theives and stolen names being owned and traded by members is ok by them. The facts were clear, they didn't act, that inaction showed disregard for members safety and domains, not cool.
