Are they profitable? Do some domains see an increase in traffic after a natural disaster?

An example would be just now, for s* and giggles, I did a whois on HaitaiQuake/Earthquake.com. To my surprise, both were registered just moments after the news report.

This went for the same on all variations of the Somoa tsunami disaster.

Do these domains really see a surge of traffic? Does it last long? Do people really expect to see news on just them by going to Disaster dot com?

I have a couple of recently active volcano domains, in case they happen to erupt again. of course the loss of life would be tragic, but nature has no conscience, no conscience or ill will..

Putting morals aside... Do you believe this type of domain will be profitable if they do by chance erupt?

It seems like the click through rate would be tremendously low for the amount of traffic they would receive as people will be looking for news or videos rather than a new mortgage.

Anyone have any experience in owning a natural disaster domain before/during/after the event occurred and mind sharing?
