If the generic of a .com already exists, is the .net version reliant on people typing the word in (plus .net)? Or would some browsers automatically go to .net over the .com in some instances?

If not, how are high-priced .net's getting their traffic if they are only parked sites?

I don't think any browser would redirect you to the .net version before going to a .com.
In fact the browsers usually redirect you to a search engine when typing the word in the address bar - google for firefox and msn for IE.

Apparently people do type in names with .net ..

I don't think anyone would type in a .net, although it is possible someone would try the .net if the .com doesn't resolve or is parked.

In Firefox, shift+enter takes you to the .net the same way ctrl+enter takes you to the .com. No clue on the traffic impact though.

thanks CyrusL!
I was wondering why it sometimes goes to .com/.net without me typing it :)
