I just registered my first web site with the intent of making a couple of bucks from the traffic.

anywho...wondering if ya'll think it was a good choice

travelraleigh.info

also should I snatch up other tld's such as .net .biz etc since they are available right now?

Only the .com is worth anything at all , I would not reg the other extensions , just a waste of money. Your domain would need to be developed and have decent traffic to gain value , for example you see my screen name is one of my websites , the name is not worth the reg fee , but the site serves up 20 to 25,000 pages a month , each with ppc and adsense on the pages , well indexed in search engines and lots of backlinks giving it some sort of value , hope this helps! good luck on your venture!

thanks... I figure the only way to learn the ropes of this stuff is to get in it and develop sites

Yes , one way to go in this biz is to learn to be a good developer/promoter , you can make as much by selling a developed site with good traffic as you can with a very good domain , which are very hard to register or buy these days. This direction you can register any good "sounding" domain and make your money down the road on the traffic.
