i wouldn't consider offers or inquiries to purchase my domains as spam...

I agree with you. I send email inquiries similar to the one Acro posted. The way I see it, if someone thinks it's spam and disregards it, they're missing out on a potential sale.

I really don't want to make the initial offer for a domain if at all possible. I prefer to try to discover how much the registrant is expecting, or if the registrant is even interested in selling. Then I know whether I want to pursue negotiations or not. Yes, I could throw out the first number, but in negotiations, the first person to throw out a number is often left at a disadvantage.

That said, I do realize there are plenty of actual spammers and scammers out there ("appraisals", "listing services", etc.) trying to part you and your money -- or you and your domains.

In case you missed my second post: I asked for verifiable information and they responded - in broken English - that they want to remain anonymous. In my book, it's spam.

When I place an offer via email I include my name/company name, phone number and location. This guy's name is "Allen" as much as mine is "Murat"

Going by this I know the fact, I do not have any domains worth for Spammers.
I never got these emails

May be they will dumb down once all the good names were spammed to death.

The trend I've been noticing is that we'll get a random email offering to buy a domain that we just sold a few days earlier at auction. We have speculated that it is the new owner trying to get us to buy back the domain we just sold him for a higher price and then drop his/her 'offer' afterward.

Example:

-We sell xxx.com at auction for $1000
-Three days later we receive an offer for $3000

If we were idiots, we would then...
-rush back to the buyer at $1000 and offer him $1500 for the domain we just sold him
-he would agree, and so we would agree to the $3k offer
-we would pay for $1500 for the domain and then when we asked for payment from the new buyer, he would vanish

Anyway, just something to be aware of...

True same here i got a mail from with a different person i think, or maybe same as i have got before, but an ok offer for that name.
Still to low for me to sell ut but a good starting point. Will see what they reply. Sure they try to get a good price but deos'nt most people when they e-mail
When i try to buy a name i allways ask for a price so i know if it's even worth negotiating.
i asked about a lll.com and he replied "I know that an offer of less that US$ 200,000 would not be considered seriously" I did not even bother replying to that because i have sold better names for 5 figure. I guess his personal value was alot more then the market or end user...

Next time i will let them make an offer before i write my price. I could get really good offer so...

On an interesting note pertaining to a couple comments earlier, these were two domains that i just recently purchased at a latonas.com auction. I'm just not quite clear what's in this for them.

I replied asking for a phone number. We'll see what happens

I've been getting a boat load of these over the past few months and am getting p*ssed off with them so thought I'd have another dig around. Here are the results:

A google search for the philippenes ip address usually associated with these emails (116.50.236.226) reveals 1 entry at Stopforumspam.com:

The spammers username is listed as 'lbtriggerman'

The first result on google for 'lbtriggerman' is this twitter page:

http://twitter.com/lbtriggerman

The twitter page has numerous links to the following 2 sites: watchbrokers.com / webuywatches.com, both these sites are owned by Rick Latona as can be seen in the my companies/sites sections on this page:

http://www.ricklatona.com/watches

Is all this a coincidence? I seriously doubt it as the whole thing has reeked of Latona from the beginning.

I see no problem with this. Some big players do this so they can get teh domain for a reasonable price. If you know Microsoft wants to buy it you probably will try to get a lot more.
