The Nickel & Potassium Ecological Reuse Proponents - advocating for the recycling of nickel and potassium for the benefit of the environment.
i am pretty new to the domain name business, Yes, I thought there may be a legal issue but I am still unsure if I am able to sell the domain. Is it illegal to sell it, I am trying to read up on it. I understand I am not allowed to sell it to nike, but am i allowed to sell it to someone else?
I figured that if there was a legal problem that I would simply give the name up, 8$ lost is ok.
But legally it belongs to the owner of the Nike trademark. You can't stake a claim on someone elses land and call it your own, even if the owner isn't currently using the land. You are violating Nike's mark.
I'm sure there are a lot of opinions as to what you should do. Some would say do nothing and if they contact you, give them the domain. Some would say contact them and offer them the domain. If I were you, I would change the contact information to match that of nike.com. That way, they will have no idea who you are, and if they want the domain back, they can initiate a transfer from whichever registrar they choose.
That would be a good idea. Say that you grabbed the name to protect Nike's image and that you plan to offer it to them for FREE, if only they let you know who to talk to. MAKE SURE YOU ARRANGE FOR A PHONE CONVERSATION. Then - depending on your people's skills - you can sell a fat lie about how devoted of a Nike fan you are etc etc. You MIGHT end up getting a nice pair of new shoes
