Hi Dorith.

If I'm allowed to give you a tip; stop registering domains. That's a classic newbie trap. I did it myself when I started out a couple of years ago and it often ends with you wasting a lot of money on regfees for domains you'll never get rid of. Instead, save those money and purchase domains that already have value (CCC.com, LLLL.com, LLL.net, LLL.org etc.). You will have a much bigger chance of making early profit that way.

If it's not registered today, it's worthless today. Of course you can get really, really lucky and register a domain which gets a lot of traffic in time, but 99% of the time you'll register worthless names with no traffic at all.

Thank you all, I will take your advice. Trouble is knowing which name is THE name for me as I cannot develop a website myself.

Start reading some books on html and css. Look at a CMS like Wordpress or Joomla. Making a website isn't that difficult, but can appear intimidating when you are first starting out. Once you take those first steps though, it only gets easier.

I partly disagree with you on that point Stian. Hand regging is a very strong and profitable approach to the industry though it's only beneficial if you know what you're doing and are seasoned in the industry. To put it simply... a hand-regged domain by a newcomer will more likely then not suck... a hand regged domain by a pro- priceless. I became prosperous in this industry through hand regging then shifted to direct resell purchases and lately, I started hand regging again.

To original poster... always double check before registering a domain name. When I first started, I think I made the same mistake you did 3 times.:sigh2: Some words are just tricky. And if it's too good to be true then you're in the domain industry.

I see what you mean Foxo, but; if the thread starter has little to no experience at all with domain names, he/she will most likely register crap names which are worthless and most of them will be dropped by next year, as they are impossible to sell, even for regfee. I'm only saying what I would've done myself if I started out as a domainer today, based on my experience the last couple of years. I know a lot of people have had great success with handregs, but I rather invest in names with "obvious" value instead of speculating.

Not a sale trick, but just to illustrate that what is trash for some people can be useful for others.
It takes just to find somebody who has reason to buy a domain.
The domain industry is not here only for registrars and resellers.
There are end users who have their own viewpoint, too.
I don't encourage people to put together random characters, but I think most of us here agree that msnbc.com, tucows.com, tdnam.com etc. are no more or less strange than the typo of our friend Dorith.
If we sell one domain at $100 for every 5 we drop, we are still in the running provided the reg. fee is $9.95 or so ...
Imho, it is faster to make profit with domains than any lottery.
There is some likeliness with the stock market, I believe.
A little speculation in the Domain Casino won't harm unless it's household money.

I'm often checking to reg names and surprised sometimes at ones I find that have made it through the drop. They are usually .net, .biz, .org, or .info, but I've found some good real estate and city names in these extensions, available to reg again, when the same name in most other top extensions is taken.

The exception to the advice above is country code domains, there is more opportunity to get something good in a .us or .ca than a .com/net/org when fresh regging.

I'd agree though if you are new and have a chunk of cash to invest in domains, better to buy a keyword or LLL, LLLL in a good extension in the aftermarket than fresh reg a ton of names.

people don't always pronounce words correctly and often they will spell them phonetically when guessing.
