There's a certain .com domain name that I have my eye on. All domain registrar sites report it as TAKEN when I try to register it, but when I lookup the whois for that domain it says that there is no whois entry for the domain.

Can anyone tell me what might be going on here? Is it in the process of deleting, recently been registered, or what?

It may likely been registered today and the whois info isn't updated for everyone.

Thanks for the info.

If that's the case, when might I expect the new info to start showing up in whois? It's currently showing as unavailable on every whois site I've checked, including the one on Verisign's site.

If you wish to PM me the name I can check for you. If you are using whois.sc, this is somewhat lagged at displaying the whois info. Your best bet is to go to one of the larger registrar's or the registering registrar and do a whois. Likely you will see this info within 12-24 hours.

It's showing up in the whois now. You were right, someone reged it today. :(

Thanks for your help.

hello, what is the whois.sc ?

Whois.SC is a popular whois website, now replaced by www.domaintools.com

At first, NameIntelligence (owners of the website) claimed .SC was short for source, now they say it stands for ShortCut. All the while, .sc is actually a ccTLD for the Seychelles.
