If a brand of motor parts are obsolete that would mean that nobody would want them - so how could a domain like this possibly make any money? You have to think about money making potential in a domain before you reg it otherwise you're just throwing money down the drain.

Good god ,the knowlege on this forum is overwhelming. BUT check to see who owns obsoletechevy.com or obsoleteford.com. MOPAR is not a brand of autoparts, its the all incompassing name for DODGE,CHRYSTLER ,PLYMOUTH. Obsolete means that they no longer make the part ,NOT that anyone WANTS the part. Who wants parts for a 69 cuda or challenger parts(General Lee, Dukes of Hazard, soon to popularize a new generation with the movie)? People who restore cars, hot rods, classics. Big Money, tons of money is spent on restoring detroit muscle. Yall are not being fair with this name, and 66 percent of you who replyed to this post have NO IDEA what the name even means, so I guess to be honest I would rather not have anyone evaluate this domain than have idiots who obviously have no idea what they are talking about comment on it.

I think the domain wouldn't have much value just because of the word obsolete. A keyword such as NOS (New Old Stock for the unitiated) would be better.

You could try and run it as a swap meet type of site, where users can list parts for their 54 plymouth or request parts for their lil red express or whatever they have. The price of old mopars worldwide has skyrocketed and finding origional parts is hard. Concours restoration people won't use anything but origional or NOS parts and they prefer origional even if it costs twice as much.

However, as I said before, as it is it's not worth much. Developed with some traffic it could be a great site. You could always get some almost free advertising by being a subscriber to Mopar Collectors Guide. MCG offers subscribers a free 25 word ad each month, nothing wrong with that.

I'd say value as is = reg fee

A long time ago I proudly owned a cool Mopar Powered Black Plymouth Sports Fury. Even took it once to the 1/4 mile drag strip, an organized drag strip club. Mopar was once a very well know word.

Mopar is still a well known word. Walk into a dodge/plymouth/chrysler dealership and you'll see Mopar Performance banners everywhere. It's even on the shirt I'm wearing as I'm typing this.

However, debating the popularity of the word to the general public isn't the issue. The issue is the domain name and the people looking for old mopar parts that know what they're going to search for, and that includes dodge, plymouth, chrysler, mopar, hemi, 6 pack, shaker, and a few other keywords.

I'll say it again, with the right development it's got value, as just the name it's not worth much.

Just let me add one more thing then, obsoletechevy looks like its going to be a big time website(chevy and GM affilated) and obsoleteford was once a popular site until it looks like it was aquired by markmonitor for the Ford Corporation. So to me this is a catchy phrase that attracts even the big boys. Just my 2 cents.

BigDaddy, you obviously feel this domain is of value to you; which offcourse is why you regged it. With that said, then you should develop this name into however you feel it is best used. The keyword "Mopar" retreives very good search results ... so maybe you should develop it to bring search engine traffic targetting this popular keyword. The domain "obsoletemopar.com" is not going to get much if any type-in traffic ... but development may bring some decent results/sales as a part store which you suggested (if you have the patience). The value of this domain is regular fee until developed and proven otherwise.

No harm meant ,but you are the one calling MOPAR a brand of autoparts, when its a AUTOMAKER. Little bit of difference.
