What is the best software to use to integrate directly with opensrs? I have seen their's and am not all that impressed, there must be something better out there?

Opensrs-sf on SourceForge is another option. Paul is coming out with a new version any day now that is a complete rewrite.
There is also a PHP library on SourceForge that you can use to write your own client code.
There may have been a Java library as well - do a search on SourceForge.
