Agreed, that seems a tad excessive.

Maybe it was goldenpalace.com, they'll buy anything. :)

The double Rs aren't helping it. $7,510? I don' know about that, I would
seriously have to consider it at $7.51 reg fee.

I would say that the price paid seems about right, perhaps even a little low.

I think it's a bit high for a three word and "Online" domain.

OnlinePoker.com would be nice but put room together and it's too much.

Luc ...the "double R's" aren't hurting pokerroom.com too much! I'm not saying onlinepokerroom.com is worth $27,510, but a lot more than $7.51.

I think it's a great name. Online poker is massive right now. Developed properly I think it's a great investment. Probably paid slightly too much, but I reckon they'll get it back within a couple of years.

"....Online poker is massive right now."

************************************

Online poker rooms will eventually go the way of billiard halls and bagel shops.. They will still exist but they won't be as 'hot' as they are right now and we'll all go back to playing blackjack or craps or baccarat in the casino. At that price it's a name brand purchase for a casino or future investment.. Not based on the traffic the name might garner IMO.

I remember you could get these kind of names for $40 here in the sales thread. But then again, I remember you could also get them at reg fee. Also, the previous registrant who let it drop would be more than happy if you emailed and gave him $1k for the name.

It has become very apparent that this so-called "madness" is being driven by the hypnotic auction fever - the I must win at all cost, the "I have more money than thou" statements some people (for whatever reason) appears bent on making.

pokerroom.com is a massive poker website. The double R's are therefore well established, and not alien to people familiar with online poker.

Poker is becoming more popular on the internet with each passing day. Who knows when it will reach it's peak.

The internet has only relatively recently become technologically advanced enough to support multiplayer poker environments. Poker has been very popular for a very long time, and was enjoying growth long before the internet was established.

Since it's somewhat new, it's currently enjoying a lot of hype. Most of the time, when hype dies down so does the popularity of the product. But I don't think that will happen here.

When casinos first became available on the internet and were discussed in the media, I am sure that many people also felt it was a passing fad.

Onlinepokerroom.com is highly generic, though a little long. I think it is worth the price paid. Onlinepoker.com would be worth at least $200k in the current environment. Poker.com would be worth about $20,000,000+ ... actually I would say that poker.com is the one of the top two or three most valuable domain names in the world.

The length of the name is like a wannabe went wild, trend or no trend imho.

I think poker.com is nice for online poker playing.

epoker.com is also a great name.

pokerroom.com is good.

'online'pokerrom.com is one appendage too many to warrant such a high price. Isn't it obvious you are 'online'? Or am I missing something about money is no issue and how much you can get doing online gambling, over $200k per month, I hear.

I agree that such auctions are for end-users today, not resellers, so the sky is the limit. Having said that, I think anyone here could have saved the buyer a lot of dough by just going direct to the registrant before the drop. But wait, maybe the registrant let it drop to get a cut?

i disagree
yes the double r is established like you said - poker room have been around since 99 and have spent millions branding the site
you could make 5hdfj.com get huge if youve got a large enough advertising budget
i dont think pokers a fad - but i do think the guy who paid that needs his head examined

I agree, poker.com is probably one of top 5 names if all names would be sold TODAY

HUGE business

Heck, even as I am typing this, I am enjoying a nice hold'em session

Yes, you are missing something. When you say, "it has the term online in it" and say, "isn't it obvious you are online", is the whole point summed up. It's that easy to remember. I am online in a poker room, the online poker room. That's why it sold for so much. Coupled with the fact that the online gambling industry is very strong and brings in more than enough money to pay big money for a premium gambling related domain.

PPC results for "online poker room":

7search.com #1 is $2.12 CPC! Top 10 are all over a $1 per click.

But at Overture, #1 is $0.23.

And at Google average CPC is $0.35.

I think the guy who paid a high price for this domain did so because he researched that the search term "online poker room" (probably only at 7search) is a high paying search term. Limited information, poor decision... Search terms don't necessary translate into good domain names. Who knows though, maybe he is getting $2.12 per click. Only 20 $2.12 clicks a day and it'll pay for itself in less than 2 years. I seriously doubt he'll be profitable in 2 years, but I think that was his reasoning.
